Audio Interface Help

PostMon Nov 19, 2018 4:10 pm

I'm having absolutely no luck getting any mic input from my audio interface (I've tried 4 different brands) into Resolve (Windows 10). The interface and mic work just fine with all other apps, and the sample rate is set to 48000 Hz. When I go through the recording steps, Resolve records a dead slug in the track, no response in the waveform. All I can think of is that there is a driver problem, and I found a post that said ASIO support isn't anticipated for Resolve 15. So my questions are as follows:

Can someone at BlackMagic confirm that ASIO is the point of failure or point me in a better direction for troubleshooting? (System info and Resolve Logs are attached if necessary)

If so, are there any generic non-ASIO drivers that will allow input from an interface into Resolve in Windows?

And if it is a driver problem why is there no issue using the interface for playback?

If this were a simply a massive blackout on windows audio interfaces, I would think there would be A LOT more people complaining about this. So either I'm the only person trying to record on Fairlight in Windows, or the problem is unique to my system configuration. Thanks in advance for the help.

I noticed that resolve sometimes can't assign the correct audio input, if there are any other Windows audio inputs availaible (like webcam etc.) - even if they are not activated.

Have you checked your windows audio inputs for that?
Try dissabling any other audio input device other than your soundcard you like to use as an input.

Try using one of the other driver modes and see if that works.

Dear sirs,

This is absolutely unacceptable. I'm shopping around to replace my current screen capturing/audio editing software because my current one doesn't support any of the professional standards such as:

-ASIO
-MIDI transport
-MIDI VST parameter learn
-VST Instruments
-VST Effects

If your product doesn't support those, then there is no value for me to switch.

Thank you.

Make sure in your preferences the audio interface is selected. Did you set up routing in the Fairlight settings? The input would be from your audio interface (input to track or bus). Settings will vary depending on the equipment. Then you need to route the output of the bus or track to your speakers so you will hear the sound recorded. If things are routed correctly you will see your meters jump when the microphone is tapped.

Yea, your not alone - I've hit that roadblock also.

I run 4 external I/O's (3x 1394 units - 2x 896MKIII and 1x 828 MKII) and one PCIe 424 with 24i/O... Now the Firewire unit's are the front end for synths, samplers, etc. When they are not in use, those drivers are disabled. The 424 & 24i/O is the main unit in this room (24In x 24Out).

Here's the problem for me... Resolve recognizes all the inputs & outputs and I can route to them, but the catch is - I can only use "one" input /output (as a pair) at a time, which is defined by the Windows 10 "Defaults" in windows sound panel. I can't assign multiple outputs for Surround monitoring or send feeds to other rooms. Basically I'm stuck with one stereo mix to monitor.

The image below shows that Resolve see's the I/O - but - I can only assign one stereo pair at a time (IE: Can send to 23-24, but not 23-24 & 1-2, etc).

Image

Sure, I can render out multi-channel and finish the mix in something else for now - but - Sending separate monitor mix/feed to other rooms is a no go with Resolve 15.3.1 and that's a bigger issue for me right now.

I know ASIO is not supported currently, but it's something which needs to be considered seriously. I'm hoping they will support it in future versions or incorporate a different solution if possible.

I'm having the same issue, cannot get Scarlett 2i2 to record in Fairlight. I concur ASIO driver support is a must for Windows, or at a minimum a compatibility list of audio interfaces that work on Windows 10.

I have ASIO4ALL installed from when I was using an Edirol 10in/10out firewire card with Cubase but both my Edirol FA101 and Behringer UMC404HD work perfectly (as far as my needs are concerned) with Resolve using their standard drivers and ASIO4ALL installed aswell.

ASIO4ALL was required to get it all working with my old setup.

I haven't uninstalled it as I don't want to risk breaking anything so I don't know if it's still required but it's possibly this may help someone?

We use RME audio cards which come with WDM streaming driver: WDM, WDM-KS and ASIO.

Resolve will not use the ASIO driver so I think using the WDM driver restricts us to only having 2 inputs instead of 28 inputs. I really do recommend RME gear as they always update their drivers even for older audio interfaces.
Thank you
