Reorder Bins?

We're on version 15.2 now, and all kinds of wonderful updates keep coming from the excellent folks at BM. So, I'm really hoping that I'm just missing the method of Custom reordering bins on the Media and Edit pages. There's gotta be a way to do this now, right? Drag and Drop style maybe? ... Nope.

Can anyone out there enlighten me? Is there a way to engage this functionality? A non-dragNdrop method perhaps?

Thank you!

right click somewhere in the bins window. This is explained in the manual, always a good idea to check there.

Patrick,

If you right click on where it says "Master" in your media pool the very bottom of the context menu will give you some "Sort By" options.

If you choose User Sort it will allow you to drag and drop the folders to change the order. It's a little hidden, but it's there.

I did look, and sorting is all that’s covered. I was hoping there was a way to Custom Order my bins that had recently been added. But thanks so much for the response.

Look for "User Sort"

Selecting this will allow you to custom order your bins. If you want further clarification, information on this can be found on pg 224 of the manual under "Sorting the Bin List"

Nathan, You are correct! I totally misread your post. USER Sort is IT! Sorry about that. Much thanks!

Now, if only we could sort the Timeline Bins and have it change the dropdown menu...

I don't know.... This is one area which remains frustrating, and yet it's so rudimentary. "User sort" does not allow re-ordering items in the same hierarchy. You just can't do it manually, without unintentionally nesting folders.

Why is it not possible to left click a bin or an item and move it wherever you please? So basic, so necessary....

It does, sometimes you have to fiddle with the cursor but it's perfectly possible, just move around the left side of the bin list until the red line shifts over.

Trust me, I've tried it many times. It's not reliable, even if it can be made to work.

I’ve “fiddled” my ass off trying to reorder these bins. Ends up nesting the bin every time. This really should just work.

I solved adding 01_name - 02_name and so on to the folders. It come form other software that had no sort method other than alphabetic. (muscle memory...)

UPDATE:

Got it to work. The trick is hovering over the left side of the bin palette, to the left of the bin names area.

Go figuur

Can´t get it to work.
In the left panel under >master
i can only drag and drop bins in another bin.
The structure of bins can´t be changed. The newest is always on the bottom. Which is the least what anyone wants.

Sort options are only under Smart Bins ?!?!?! wt...

I think you're looking in the wrong place..
in the media page (for example) add few bins to the master one
now, right click to the [master] --> the last option should be [sort by]

Thank you very much Walter!
That's it!

I assumed right menu appears when clicking in the empty area like in other software.
However now i have also the option to custom order which hopefully doesn't lead to anarchy.

i know that there are menus that appear when you right click on gray... it's a bit confusing at times.

Hi there, using Davinci Resolve 16 (free) on Windows 10, and I can right click to get the Sort By 'User', 'Date' etc, but nothing changes the order of the files in the bin... They remain completely stuck. When I select 'user', I can't drag items around. I think it might be broken? Any guidance would be most appreciated. Cheers, Josh.

I solved making bins with a prefix

01_ingest
02_audio
03_vfx

and usually match the disk structure...
