Help! Very Slow Rendering on Macbook Pro

PostMon Dec 10, 2018 11:42 pm

Hi, my son is using Davinci Resolve 15 on my relatively new Macbook Pro (2017) running on Mac OS High Sierra, with a 2,9 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB Memory

It is a pretty fast laptop. But, to render a video project that is 3 minutes long is impossible. After 12 hours, only 13% of the 3-minute video with one audio track, has been rendered and he needs to submit this to his teacher ASAP for class.

He is trying to save it to an external USB drive. I'm wondering if he should save it first to the Macbook Pro and then transfer it to the USB. But, I don't know if we should we stop the render and start over again? Will the edits be autosaved? Unfortunately, he is a beginner, and I have never used the software, though I have used other simple video editing software like Mac's built in iMovie.

Please help.

We need more information to help:

– Which GPU has that MBP?
– What is the source footage (codec and resolution)?
– Which format is he trying to render (as above)?
– Is he using any effects like noise reduction or only some color nodes?

In general, laptops are not perfect for Resolve. And then, I need to tell you that Apple has no really fast laptop anymore, they are lagging behind in computing power compared to a massive gamer laptop under Windows (and I've been an Apple fan for the last 17 years!).
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

You are not alone with this problem. I am rendering an hour movie for 60 hours and I rendered 80%. The film is rendered at 0.5 fps. My computer is Intel i7 - 8700 Ge Force 1050Ti. There is something wrong with this program. Vegas renders 200fps.

you have bottlenecks somewhere: i render 2k faster than real-time and 4k at 20fps
W10-19043.1645- Supermicro MB C9X299-PGF - RAM 128GB CPU i9-10980XE 16c 4.3GHz (Oc) Water cooled
Decklink Studio 4K (12.3)
Resolve 18.5.1 / fusion studio 18
GPU 3090ti drivers 512.59 studio

Have you find a solution to this problem ?

The same thing is happening to me !
Starts rendering at 20+fps then slowy slows down to 0 ...

I can't see/find any bottleneck. Gpu 5% Cpu 30% Ram 18/32Go Drives <5%

- i7 4770K
- VEGA 64
- 32Go ram

I've been trying many many differents settings, in vain.

I've been having this problem for over a week now, and I'm not sure why. Out of frustration, I just completely uninstalled Resolve & reinstalled the previous version (16.2.6). Now, everything is working as it used to. I'm rendering 1980p 60fps footage with color grading and captions at about 45fps, on MSI GS 65 Stealth Thin Laptop, 16GB of RAM.

It probably had something to do with settings, but I wasn't able to fix this any other way. Good luck!
