Upgrade from Resolve 14 (free) to Resolve 15 Studio

PostWed Dec 12, 2018 6:25 am

I've decided to bite the bullet and move from V14 to V15.

I read this thread where Dwaine says:

If you are installing the same exact version of Studio as you currently have installed (or an earlier version), you'll need to uninstall the free version first.

But if you are installing a newer Studio version, like say, 15.2.1, there is no need to uninstall first. Just install Studio 15.2.1. It will replace the free version. All your existing projects and settings will remain unaffected

It is unclear whether this is simply if you're upgrading to a new revision rather than a new whole version.

So, do I need to uninstall my V14 (free) before installing my V15 Studio?

Yes, I've backed up my database ;-)

best is to restored the backup, disconnect the orignal then run the upgrade with the the backup active leaving your original database intact

also smart to make DRP's of all active projects

and then install the new version over top of the existing

this should be covered in the manual, took a quick look and didn't locate it tho.... maybe look with a bit more care would turn up a resualt

Thanks... that went well -- albeit V15 does seem to take an inordinate amount of time looking for control surfaces (which I don't have) when it boots up.

Time to change my .sig :-)
