Error on Installation: MinGW Runtime Assertion failed!

PostPosted: Mon Dec 17, 2018 6:10 pm

I bought a new laptop and have tried installing DaVinci Resolve over and over again with no success

After installation, I run through the quick setup and after I finish it I get this error

MinGW Runtime Assertion
Assertion failed!

Program: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Onboarding\DaVinci Resolve Welcome.exe Fil: ..\..UI\Onboarding\UiResolveOnBoardingIPC.cpp, Line 91

Expression: p_Socket && (p_Socket - > state() ==
QLocalSocket::ConnectedState)

I have an MSI p65 Creators Edition Laptop
i7 8750H
512 SSD
32 gigs of RAM
GTW 1070 MaxQ
Windows 10 pro

After getting this error I try opening resolve and it won't open, just a quick hourglass and then nothing. Resolve shows up in task manager and I have to manually close it.

I've tried installing every version of resolve from 14-15.2.2 and get the same results.
I've updated every driver I can find.
I've tried changing my Nvidia setting so that it's using the right GPU

I would love any help I can get

Thanks

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

You are suffering from the Intel igdrclneo64.dll issue.

Follow the guidance in my last post on this thread:

I've been searching my computer and following the post that you linked.

igdrclneo64.dll does not seem to be on my computer anywhere that I can find.
I've looked through C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository manually as well as running searches for it both there and on the entire C drive, with no luck.

Since it seems to be related to the intel video drivers I tried connecting an external display and disabling the Intel graphics in device manager. Resolved opened like normal, but as soon as I re-enable the Intel drivers resolve will no longer launch.

Edit:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\iigd_base.inf_amd64_acffd9292112a98d
Seems to be location of my intel video driver

Yes, that is the path. And my mistake. I saw an Intel dll error in the Windows Error log and made the rash assumption it was the standard Intel error. But apparently, there is more than 1 dll that can cause issues.

In your case, the file was igdrcl64.dll and not the normal igdrclneo64.dll.

So probably, if you delete that file, it will fix the issue.

Hi Dwaine,

I am experiencing the same issue with Resolve. I ran a search for the igdrcl64.dll file and had two results come up within the System32/DriverStore/FileRepository. Both files are owned by the SYSTEM and won't allow me to delete or rename them. Any thoughts?

If you have admin privileges, I would expect it to allow you to delete the files. Others have reported that they couldn't rename the files, but were able to delete them.

Which problem do you have? That Resolve is crashing, or that you can't delete the igdrcl64.dll file(s)?

If you can't delete the files, install the DDU utility ( https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ) and uninstall JUST the Intel GPU drivers.

Please let us know how that works.

Hey There,

Saw that you were the man to go to to solve your resolve problems.

I have an MSI laptop and recently purchased the BMPCC 4k, which as you know includes Resolves, I installed it and opened the application and which through the initial questions and Resolve said that I had windows and a medium grade graphic card, but still approved. Then when the application started up a message popped up that it failed and now the application won't launch at all.

Any ideas on solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated!

@Brian: Same advice:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

Hello, Thanks so much!!!!
I had this problem too.
I had no access to the program for several days. It worked well previously and then didn't open.
I tried uninstalling and installing back but still the same.
I restore my laptop by default. Only the first install try appeared the same message "MinGW Runtime Assertion failed.
Already deleted the igdrcl64.dll from two folders and didn't open.
It was until I used the DDU to stop intel drivers when it finally opened.

Thank you, smart tech guy :D

Hello, sorry too early rejoiced!

Had the problem too, ran CaptureLogs.bat and then started DR.
Davinci Resolve ran again, but Windows would no longer start.
After Windows was repaired, Blackmagic was gone from the computer.
I continued reading the tips, deleted the Intel GPU driver, restarted and reinstalled DR, same problem.
Hello Dwaine, here are the files needed to diagnose the error.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... share_link

Thanks a lot for your help

Latest version from 04/09/2023.
Booted the PC today, Windows does not start.
Microsoft performs diagnostics and repairs Windows.
Windows starts and Davinci Resolve is no longer present on the PC.
I uninstalled the additional programs and then completely reinstalled Davinci Resolve.
When you start, you only get the following message, which is immediately closed again.

@Jürgen: Not sure what's going on. The Windows NFO error log shows Resolve is crashing when accessing this dll:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\gio-2.0-0.dll

That file provides Glib support. I've never seen that error before, and I'd suggest it might be some low level Windows related issue.

But just in case it's not a Windows issue, try a clean Resolve install and see if that works. Details below:

The following removes ALL user specific Resolve data, including project and config data, to allow a clean Resolve install to solve issues created by corrupt user data.

However, as part of the process, copies are made of the current user data, in case there is project or config data that can later be copied back into the clean install.

Before going through the process, you need to set some File Explorer Options, so you can see hidden files and file extensions:

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Now, uninstall all Resolve related stuff in the Windows Settings - Apps and Features area.

So go to the Windows Settings area, and select Apps & features.

In the Apps & features list are all the apps installed on your system. To uninstall an app, select it, and there will either be an uninstall button, or you may need to right click the app to access the Uninstall menu.

Uninstall the following, if they exist in the list:

Blackmagic Raw Common Components
DaVinci Resolve
DaVinci Resolve Control Panels
DaVinci Resolve Keyboards
Anything Fairlight related

Once you've done that, in File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design

The DaVinci Resolve folder should have been removed when you uninstalled DaVinci Resolve. But if it's still there for some reason, delete it.

Now in File Explorer go to this folder:

C:\Users\juerg\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design

Rename the DaVinci Resolve folder to DaVinci Resolve.orig

Then in File Explorer go to this folder:

C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design

Rename the DaVinci Resolve folder to DaVinci Resolve.orig

This has now removed all the DaVinci Resolve data, including user specific projects and config data.

Run the Resolve 18.1.4 Studio Windows installer, and reinstall Resolve.

When you launch Resolve, it will run the onboarding app. After that will be Quick Setup. Do the Quick Setup. Then hopefully Resolve is running. If not, send a new Resolve log file and .NFO file.

Hello Dwaine,

i found the solution
I followed all your advice, unfortunately without success.
You were right, an indirect Windows problem.
In the meantime I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro and lo and behold everything worked as it should.
But I also had my problem with the PSD thumbnails again, which simply could not be displayed in Explorer, only the PSD emblem.

I remembered that I recently found the solution and installed the "sagethumbs" tool, which was advertised everywhere as a solution to this exact problem.
That's exactly what I reinstalled and had my Davinci Resolve problem again. Class!

Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro, everything OK again.

So that means that this little helper program modifies or destroys the DR file gio-2.0-0.dll during installation. Exactly when loading this dll, DR always hung according to the error log.

Best regards
Jurgen

Thanks for that update, I've added this to my notes in case it pops up for someone else.

I downloaded and installed sagethumbs_2.0.0.23_setup.exe and it did not modify my gio-2.0-0.dll file, or prevent Resolve from starting. I'm not sure why my Windows 10 Pro system would behave differently from yours. Is that the same version you installed?

Hello Dwaine,
I am having the same Problem with DaVinci Resolve 18.1.4. After Installing the programm, the configuration screen starts and i can "configure" DaVinci. But after I tried to launch the actual program, it won't start and it shows my the error that i shared in the Link down below.

My specs are:

RAM: 32GB
CPU: i5-13600KF
GPU: Intel Arc A770 16GB
Win10 Pro
DaVinci is installd on the C-drive (it's an nvme SSD)

I deleted the igdrcl64.dll
I removed my Intel graphics driver with DDU
I removed all my USB-Devices.
I tried install DR 17.0
I tried every compatibility mode
I tried run it as an Admin

Here are the files that you have requested from the other guys.

I hope you can understand my english. I would be very happy if you could help me out too.

According to the .NFO file you supplied, the current issue would be that you only have a Microsoft Basic Display adapter available.

I'm very confused. You have an MSI desktop motherboard. But the CPU you have, the Intel i5-13600KF, doesn't have an iGPU in it. So how are you getting any graphics out of this system? Do you have a GPU card of some sort installed?

Hey Dwaine,
yes I do have a dedicated GPU card installed. I'ts an Intel Arc A770 with 16GB of VRAM.

It's possible that I generated the NFO File at a time, where i had my graphics drivers removed. I did this, because you mentioned it earlier in the thread as an possible solution.

I uploaded a new NFO File. At this time, i definitly had the latest driver for my GPU installed.

https://1drv.ms/f/s!Av_k9FRelYwy6Dt22fzFVpihDoFv

Fyi: I upgraded my RAM recently to 64GB.

Thank you very much for your help!!

This file is crashing the Resolve GPU Detect routine at Resolve startup:

C:\Windows\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvddig.inf_amd64_a6ca17dad0757e16\nvcuda64.dll

Remove that file, and Resolve should start.

After Installation and doing the quick set up I got this error message:

---------------------------
MinGW Runtime Assertion
---------------------------
Assertion failed!

Program: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Onboarding\DaVinci Resolve Welcome.exe
File: UiResolveOnboardingIPC.cpp, Line 124

--------------------------

It also won't open again. I attached the .NFO file and the capture log file like the other guys did:

Thanks in advance.

An Intel OpenCL dll is crashing the Resolve GPU detect process:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\igdlh64.inf_amd64_250db833a1cd577e\igdrclneo64.dll

Why this is happening, I'm not sure, since you have an AMD CPU and an NVIDIA GPU. No Intel GPU in sight.

Try deleting the file above. If you can do that, it may allow Resolve to start.

The normal guidance, if there WAS an Intel iGPU involved, would be to run DDU and uninstall the Intel GPU driver. But I suspect that won't work if you don't have an actual Intel GPU in the system.

It worked! Thanks a lot!

To answer your question, this pc was originally built with an intel cpu, I upgraded to an AMD one and I imagine the files remained there, the integrated GPU I would also since for a while me and my dad made the mistake of plugging the video output in the motherboard instead of the GPU jajaja.

Thanks again for your service and helping out, I was meaning to switch to Resolve since the Hitfilm betrayal. Now I can finally start.

Have a nice day,

Rafael.
