DaVinci Resolve 15.2.2 crash on subfolder selection in Media

Hello

just in short : i've changed form FCP-X to DaVinci Resolve 15.2.2.007.
I am using a iMac with OS Mojave 10.14.2 Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017.
My Problem is :
1. open Resolve with a new project
2. change to "Media" View, where i see my locations
3. click on one location : subfolders and media shown beside
4. click on a subfolder in locations or double-click on subfolder icon let Resolve crash.

Any suggestions on this ?
Subfolders contain .jpeg, .png, .mp4, .mov and .MTS files.

All files can be imported via cmd+i in Tab "MediaPool" from "Edit" view.

Thx Dirk

It would be helpful to see a Resolve Diagnostics log file. In the Resolve Help menu, select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop", then put that file on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file here.

Sorry for delay. Logs with crash dump are here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/257uxr2ugrhps ... 0.zip?dl=0

I cleaned out all logs prior to trying to reproduce this issue, so logs should contain nothing except info related to these crashes.

In Resolve I only did the following: Create a new project and navigate to a folder in the Media page and wait for it crash.

Looking at the logs it first seemed to me the cause might be some invalid 1kb mp4 files the DJI app created, but even after removing all of these it keeps crashing.

Also h264/HVEC hardware accelerated decode on/off makes no obvious difference.

Also I digged through the logs before wiping them for this repro and found quite a few messages similar to: Out of memory in CUDAManager:19xx. I would guess this might be my other issue with previewing h265 I have. Stupidly enough I wiped those logs thinking I'll get that message again in the repro, but it seems it doesn't go get that far now and I first need this issue solved, as I can't even preview a single file now.

Thanks for looking into it.

@Peter: Please open Windows System Information, do a File - Save, to create a .NFO file and then provide a link to the file. If you don't want to post that publicly, fine to send it to me in a PM.

Hi Dwaine

i've uploaded a diagnostic log zip file as requested.

May it helps to find a hint on that issue.

@Dirk: As a sanity check that this is not some App Store related issue, download and install Resolve 15.2.2 from the BMD web site, and see if that works:

@Dwaine : i have re-installed Resolve 15.2.2 from DMG file, downloaded from BMD site.
(First what i saw was that it created a directory "DaVinciStudio14" , wondering why ...)

Unfortunately the problem exists in this version too.

i have added the new log file to this post.

thx.

@Dirk: I'm a bit confused. Back in March, you had Resolve Studio 14.0.1 running, apparently happily, on this system under Sierra. Why aren't you using Studio now? Dongle moved to somewhere else?

I can't really tell for sure from the log, so can you verify that with the 15.2.2 version from the BMD web site, you can open a new project, and Resolve does not crash until you select a media file in the Media Storage area?

If that's true, go into Resolve Preferences - System - Memory and GPU, and set the GPU processing type from Auto to OpenCL. Save the prefs and restart Resolve. Does that change anything?

@Dwaine: I was using Studio with a partner of mine but we split off and he took the dongle. As mentioned, i was using fcpx since then, but now i am back to evaluate BMD for further usage again.

According to the issue, i've figured out that there is a JPG file in the folder which seems to let DVR crash.
The file is attached to this post. May this helps for further research.

(changing the processor type didn't solve it)

That file is crashing Resolve Studio reliably on my machine too.

My Resolve is crashing, too.
MediaInfo says, it has a YUVA 4:4:4:4 subsampling.
I never heard of such a subsampling in a jpeg file, so its format seems to be invalid.
Resolve should not crash, but raise an error.
I converted it to the "normal" subsampling YUV 4:4:4 and it worked.

I have been able to reproduce this on Resolve Studio 15.2.2 Windows, Resolve 15.2.2 Linux and 15.2.2 Mac OS High Sierra with the attached image. It has indeed 4:4:4 Chroma subsampling according to MediaInfo.

Not sure if it's related , but I have previouslyt logged a reproducible issue of resolve crashing when it encounters a 16:9 image file.
