How do I change playback speed of scrub bar?

PostTue Jan 15, 2019 10:05 pm

I've checked youtube and the manual and cannot find any information on how to change the playback speed of the scrub bar (not a clip). How can I have my video playback at like 25% or 50%? I've tried combinations of J K L keys with shift and ctrl etc but cant figure it out.

I did try K+L once but it did not work. Manual I see, says K+L. I tried pressing the K and L keys together about 20 times and it either did nothing or advanced only 1 frame. I tried holding down K+L and it plays in slow motion, but unlike the other JKL commands, when I let up on the keys playback stops. This is not what I need. I need it to be able to play slowly so that I can do closed-captioning while video is playing back.

I know you said that you didn't want to change the speed of the clip, but I just tried doing some subtitles of a video by slowing the clip down so that I can keep up with the typing. It took minimal effort to stop after a little bit of time, change the clip speed to normal, then adjust the subtitles to fit the audio. If this doesn't work for you then I know of no other way than the k+l method.

Hello,

tested more than 20 times:

Playhead stopped, try :
Press the K key and leave it pressed
Then press L to go in after (unpress L stop) or J or go before or back (unpress J stop) :

reading speed at 50% when K leave pressed and (J or L) :)

while the procedure described "should work" i too often i get the "I'm arbitrarily only move the timeline a single frame" scenario and i don't know how it is triggered and how it is released.

I'm pretty sure his complaint is that he needs the footage to keep playing at 50% after he releases the k+L keys so that he can type on the keyboard while the video is playing slow.

You can set a temporarily different playback in the settings: if you're in a 30fps project, put 15 and you're constantly playing at 15fps

Good tip, that seems to work pretty well.

Just keep in mind that is you set faster than real-time (like in this example 60fps) the resolve software will compute 60 frames per second and throw away the ones that it cannot display.
