Backing up files

PostTue Jan 22, 2019 5:07 pm

Hi

Does anyone have a good tip on a backup software I can use to backup my 12TB RAID volume onto external USB drives? It would have to be something which kept a log/catalogue of backed up files on the 1st disk so that any file could be quickly and easily restored.?

Hello,

Here, I use ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE for more than 20 years ...
Can also do incremental, standalone, etc ... cloud, etc..

Planning every day, every week, every => to set
Repeat a new image every n increment, delete all archives that have more than n days, etc ...

Backup bit to bit, or others...(packed..)

Start restore HDD from USB, DVD, etc...

Can backup, etc..

I have never been disappointed :)

See Acronis wab site :)

Thanks but not quite what I am after. If you are of a certain vintage you may remember the old 'tape' method where you just insert one tape after another until everything is copied. The software keeps track of which files are on which disk and therefore you can very quickly restore any particular file or project.

The old Windows backup program, NTBackup, does what you want, but it stopped being provided beyond XP. I used it on Windows 7. If you google it, you can still find it. I don’t know for sure, but it should work on Windows 10. You just can’t use tapes anymore, but usb drives work fine.

As mentioned on the other thread, just try stablebit drive pool and use any non vintage backup tool.
