Training manuals now free as .pdfs on BM training page

PostSat Jan 26, 2019 6:19 pm

If $5 US wasn't cheep enough for a 400+ page training manual and free downloadable media, all of the Resolve 15 training manuals are now free .pdf downloads on the Resolve training page, and they just released the Coloring course. I've always been impressed with companies that see the vision of marketing their products through effective training. With pdfs, this also solves the issue people had with getting the Kindle version to flow the content nicely. There are plenty of pdf readers out there that support robust annotation, so this is a win for everyone IMO. Looking forward to the Advanced Editing and Fusion manuals to complete the collection. If you must have paper running through your fingers, you can still buy the paperback versions on Amazon.

Wow, that is amazing! Thanks for sharing the link, Mike. This is great news -- clearly, BMD is going to push into new markets as hard as they can. I think this will not be good news for Adobe.

I'm trying to download the assets for the Advanced Editing guide, and pt2 ends up being an invalid zip so I can't extract it... anyone else able to download it? I've tried twice and though the browser thinks everything went fine, the zip file is bogus... ?

The rest I've been able to download and extract without a hitch.

Unzipped successfully with the built-in unzip in macOS.

If you think your file is corrupt, try the one I could unzip:

It's hard to tell whether it's corrupt or just that the download is getting interrupted. Either way, it's the only one I've been unable to extract.

I'm trying yours right now.

Thanks for that!

Success! But I had to install 7zip to unpack it. Apparently the included Windows zip extractor doesn't like that one zip file.

Ah, it's not the first time BMD has provided zip files which didn't unzip correctly in Windows. Seems to be more of an issue with large files.

In Windows I use Total Commander for just about everything, that usually works.

It's odd that only one of the files gave me any issues, but I let the support folks know that 7zip did the trick in case anyone else runs into this sort of problem.

I experienced the same issue with the single zipped file in Windows 10, which I also worked around by using 7Zip.

It looks like the ZIP for "R15 editing lessons pt2.zip" is incorrectly packaged. The internal directory lists the file data as being exactly 4GB (‭4,294,967,296‬ bytes) less than what it actually is.

This suggests the Zip software employed by BMD is either slightly buggy and/or has some 32bit addressing limitations.

Windows is not forgiving this error. But it would appear that 7Zip, WinRAR MacOS and others are more forgiving and calculate the actual size.

Update: It looks like BMD have already resolved the issue with the ZIP file (prior to my original post).
