aaf issues & resolve borking .wav files

edited a piece in resolve 15.2.2 free on a windows machine. project file stored locally. media on samsung t5. sound effects library on a gdrive loaded into resolves sound effects library.

I've tried turning over to my sound mixer who works in pro tools. i've tried export .aaf from the timeline. i've tried avid aaf i've tried the pro tools export. i've exported an xml into premiere and had issues.

.aaf export from timeline has no option field like the manual states, so i can't consolidate all files for turnover. tried copying/transcoding/moving & relinking files to a new folder with the media manager option. when resolve 'touches' the wav files i used to sound design, they get borked. premiere can't play them. protools can't import them. quicktime can't play them. in finder and vnc they show 0:00 for duration. mp3s come across, relink and play fine.

similarly with the xml to premiere workaround, all of the .wav files become unreadable once i import the xml into premiere. they're imported in as files, but greyed out in the timeline and don't produce any audio.

.aff exports from the delivery page package the audio as .mxfs, which my mixer can read, but pro tools doesn't relink any of it. he has to manually conform.

I know i can export stems, but that's an unworkable workflow for me moving forward. i could dig through my sfx library and transcode to mp3s, but again, that's a huge headache.

I switched onto a mac and had the same errors. I tried transcoding via media manager using the aac codec rather than the linear pcm codec, but that seems to only affect the source audio on the video clips.

also tried updating to resolve 15.2.3. same errors.

am I missing something? is this kind of functionality reserved for the studio version? enjoyed cutting in resolve, but being unable to turnover to a sound mixer is kinda a deal breaker...

Hi,
the AAF situation and the possibility to collaborate with pro tools easily is the main problem to me as a professional editor.
I tried every possible work around to solve this problem. Each round trip with xml, aaf, edl etc going to premiere pro, avid, final cut pro x (and x2pro) it's not easy and you can find different problems each time, even more if you have syncronised clip in your project since once you have a clip sync with an audio you got the audio named as the video clip, so it's impossible to relink elsewhere with the original audio files.
So you have to stick with the aaf from the delivery tab, avid or pro tools preset(with this option you always have to export the video as well, with avid you can selrct to export just audio). Beware to add handles so the sound editor could work better. You get mxf files and an aaf. It's a very slow process, it takes a lot of time.
Then the aaf is not openable with pro tools, maybe only the latest versions, but I never been able to open it. So I open the same aaf in avid and export a new aaf link, so it's quick and now it's possible to open in pro tools.
if you don't know avid remeber that you have to move the files generate from davinci in the a folder where avid can relink them (Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1). It's possible that you get some out of sync so you have to check on avid where you have the out sync. It's better that you export from davinci tracks with all the same kind of audio(mono, stereo, multichannel audio), I find you get less error, but you need to do more aaf from davinci.
So finally you have your audio in pro tools! But my sound editor is alway unhappy, since you loose every metadata from the sound recorder, no transition, no levels… Some sound facility asked me to re edit eveything in avid in order to have sound metadata!!!!
So this is a way to save your… but it's not an easy way to get audio, you loose a lot of time and you get very frustated.
I keep writing on this forum that this is a huge problem that make hard choose davinci as a professional editor. Fairlight is a very nice option, but right now most of audio editor and mixer use pro tools and it will take time before they dismiss pro tools.
Hope that the editors in my situation will ask loud for a quick and easy solution to this problem.

Sound folks complain about Resolve->ProTools workflow. Hopefully BM will chime in & get this sorted. I still only grade in Resolve so haven't needed this myself yet.

This has been going on since DaVinci 15 began. Seems pretty clear to me that the goal is to not fix the issue. They want you to use their Fairlight audio. Such a shame.

I stand corrected ..... I just tried this again and got it to work. Seems to always create a bogus unnamed file but everything else opens up fine in Pro Tools without needing to do any manual relinking. Bottom line is you have to follow the Media Composer method of putting the new video and audio files created in Resolve into the AvidMediaFiles Folder/MXF/1 (or any number folder you want to create).

Then open the AAF as normal in Pro Tools and it works.

BMD has done an incredible work making davinci an eding program wich is the one I prefer, after I worked over the years with all major competitors, and the possibility to export to pro tools, with a special preset means that they really want to help people to collaborate in the post production field.
The only problem is that they have not manage to make this kind of very needed feature for editors working properly. Fairlight is a great option is you edited in resolve, but right now everybody I know in the audio post production still stick with their old habits with pro tools. Insted a lot of editor I know are interested in davinci but they are afraid that at the end of a job they can't send easily aaf to pro tools so they stick to avid. And I understand them very well. So it would be import to improve this feature in order to convince the professional editors to step without worries in davinci.
Right now the pro tools export has a lot of problem for me:
-it's impossible to open in pro tools 10, and a lot of sound editors don't have the very latest pro tools.
-when you have syncronised clip on the time line, all the audio file take the name of the video file.
-NO METADATA from sound recorder, so you can't know wich mic is on each track!!!
-no levels, no cross fades, is not very import for professional sound editors, but if you are in a hurry could be a problem.
-No way to relink to the original audio files wih sync clip.
-to have handles, you write how many frames do you want, and for each piece of audio on the time line export the same amount of frame on the left and on the right of cut. SO dor a feature film the export could go on for a day!!!!
- lots of problem with multi track files, each time you have to watch out if you get all the original tracks.
-lots of out of synch!!!!! so you have to check where are the problems.

So you can export an aaf with all new mxf fiels but you have Always to worry about what is going to happen...I think davinci resolve ediotrs need to work without this kind of anxiety and frustation.
