Render stuck at 99%

Hello,

I am experiencing problems with rendering. It always gets stuck at 99%, although rendering in other formats works. I can't even cancel the render, I have to close Resolve from the task manager. Rendering other projects works fine.

Format I am using: mov (QuickTime)
Codec: H.264
Resolution: 1920x1080
Framrate: 24 (clip framrate is 70)

Quality is set to best, Encoding Profile and Key Frames are both set to "Auto".
It's kind of urgent, I would appreciate some help, thank you!

If it's urgent, let me suggest a workaround: export in a high-quality format like DNxHR. If that renders completely, load the result and try to encode that to H.264 (or use ffmpeg).

What OS, Studio or free version, are you using NVIDIA or QuickSync acceleration?

I am on Windows 10, and I am using DaVinci Resolve 15 (free version). I don't know about acceleration, but I have an AMD system (CPU and GPU).

If it's urgent forget about it and export intermediate file (ProRes, DNxHR etc.) and use other tool (Handbrake etc) to make h264. It will be way quicker than trying to find out what is the problem.

Also- have you waited for long? If you have "Network Optimisation" ticked then Resolve may be re-writing file to move MOV atom to the beginning of the file. If file is fairly big then this will take some time.

It means there is some serious problem on your machine (or issue with particular project). Is it complex or has 3rd party plugins?

I had this issue.

What helped in my case was taking my external single SSD enclosure out of a passive USB 3.0 hub and plugging it directly to my laptop with a short cable. Probably not a good idea having two external drives share a passive USB hub in the first place.

When i had this issue, it was due to the "Network Optimization" turned on in export settings. Deselect this option and it won't get stuck at 99%. I'm not certainly sure what this option is about.

This issue occured to me the past few days as well and I wanted to share with you guys what worked for me: I had a huge clip that wasn't cut or split up, therefore I assume that the temporary file for rendering this one clip just got so huge my PC couldn't handle it anymore and always crashed at 99%. Now I'm cutting those clips also into more digestable chunks for my PC to handle and it works just fine. ;)
