Hi

I am new to Davinci Resolve 15 previously used Power Director. I love to make videos of our holidays usually about 45 minutes long. I am importing MP4 files from a Pansonic Lumix TZ100 and will shortly try to import from a Gopro. Have made a short film with music and transitions and titles but want to learn how to export this and then try larger home made movies.

Can anyone advice what software to use and how to go about rendering the films that I make onto a DVD and also how to render to a USB so the whole family can watch on a HD TV like I did with Power Director.

Ideally to make this process as straight forward as possible

At the moment shooting in 1080.

I no longer create DVD or Blu-ray discs. I use Resolve to create an H.264 video file. Most newer TV's have the ability to play H.264 videos from a Flash Drive. My older TV's USB port does not accept H.264 videos. My DVD/Blu-ray has a port to insert a Flash Drive. The videos play without any problems.

I haven't done this. The workflow I suggest trying would be to use Resolve to generate an MP4 of the proper resolution (a0720x480 NTSC DV) and bit rate (try "Restrict to 6500 kb/s")

Then a DVD authoring program would be needed to burn the MP4 to DVD, I think Premiere elements would do that if you happen to have a copy and probably there's some freeware but I don' personally know of any.

The DVD standard doesn't' allow MP4, only MPEG. So you'd encode to a lossy codec twice – not a good idea.

Hi I have just rendered a 7 minute video with Davinci and it is 10gb should it be this big for a short video. Wanting to put on a stick to play in Fairly new Panasonic TV. How many GB would an hour’s video be

If you've exported using ProRes422 then 10GB for a 7 minute video sounds about right. You can use this file to store as a backup if you lose it in the future. But if you want to put it on a USB and watch it on your TV, use the following settings in the picture below.

If you use these settings for a one hour video it will come out as at approximately 4GB. For a 7min video about 450MB.

I would forget about DVDs, just render to H.264 in mp4 format and put it on a USB stick.
Any modern device should be able to play that format.
