Incompatible JPEG 2000?

The exported JPEG 2000 files using the Kakadu encoder cannot be imported into any of the Adobe suite (Premiere, AE, AME...).

YUV files can get imported, but suffer some heavy chroma aberrations, especially in 444. RGB files cannot be imported at all as they are deemed corrupted or damaged.

YUV 444 files cannot even be read correctly by ffmpeg, which is much less finicky with j2k files.

I can send some sample files if needed.

Is this a known issue? Is there a planned fix?

Thanks,
Daniel

I've done many IMF files (422 10bit) and they play fine in Premiere and Switch player. This was with Resolve 15.2.2 on PC.
I can see if 444 works or not. It may be also related to profile and type- lossy vs lossless. Please give detailed settings.
What is your Resolve/Premiere version?

Tried IMF RGB HD and DCP 2K option and all fine.
It can be your machine specific.

Thanks - are you using Lossless 422? I am getting a flashing green strip on the right.

Resolve Studio 15.2.4.006
Premiere Pro CC 13.02 (Build 38)
MacOS Mojave 10.14

More testing of produced j2c.mxf files into Premiere:

RGB 2K: Lossless, 200mbps max: "Unsupported format or damaged file".
RGB HD: Lossless, 200mbps max: "Unsupported format or damaged file".

Test files:

Maybe I should also cross-post on the Adobe forum as well - aren't both using the Kakadu j2k libraries?

Lossless RGB is also fine in Switch, Iris QC Player and in ffmpeg.
Premiere won't import it, so it most likely doesn't support lossless Jpeg2000 mode.
I don't think it has anything to do with Resolve.

They all decode fine (if this blue tint is on the source).
I have same look in Switch for all of them (same as dropbox preview).
The only exception is j2k-200.mxf which has some wrong aspect (but colors are the same as for others).

Thanks for testing. I can decode fine using ffmpeg-based tools, but not using the Adobe suite on the Mac, which now leads me to believe that the problem may lie with their MacOS implementation of the decoder.

I just want to make sure that the packages are compliant, as IMF and j2k are all about interoperability...

Lossless doesn't work in Premiere on Windows either.

I made quite a few UHD IMF packages for major delivery guys and had no complains.
Almost no one uses lossless though (typically it's a profile with about 800Mbit for UHD for 25p).
I wouldn't also treat Premiere as reference IMF player.

Use few tools and check if it works in all of them. If it works with 3 out of 4 then it's most likely issues with that 1 tool, not with files itself.
