LUT to external monitor

PostFri May 17, 2019 12:00 pm

I've created a LUT with displaycal : workspace > monitor calibration > calman

Which LUT dropbox do I add it to in the Lookup tables section in the color managment window?

The 3D video monitor lookup table seems to effect the GUI viewer as well?

This has been brought up in the past.

A handfull (including myself) of users have this problem where applying a LUT to the external monitor applies the LUT to the GUI viewer as well. Even when the GUI viewer is set to none.

Not all GUI viewers are treated equal, I seem to recall that on some pages (I think fairlight & deliver) the LUT is not incorrectly applied to the GUI viewer, where as in edit and color it is incorrectly applied.

If you search this forum you'll find threads dating back all the way to version 12.
None of the suggested solutions have worked for me (or the handfull few others).
The issue was also not reproducable by Blackmagic so this will likely never to be solved for us.

I tried it in 16 beta, and the issue still exists.

Peter what about if you give it a GUI lut as well?

Hi Dan, I just tried that, but the issue remains.
The GUI viewer always follows what I choose for the external display.

It's as if the GUI Lut selection has no effect at all.
I'm trying with creative LUT's so the effect should be visible from miles away... but it's not working at all.

I've gone through the recommended settings (disable gui overlays...etc...), no change.

I just verified, color and deliver viewers work as expected. Edit and fairlight viewers apply the external LUT.

You should make a thread for that in the beta sub form then, as that's definitely a bug that should be fairly easy to fix.

You are probably right, I'll bring this up again in the beta forum.

But to be honest, I am more and more reluctant to report anything at all.
Every time I report anything, the outcome is always the same. It's as if I'm in an ignore list.

I understand the people at Blackmagic have a lot on their plates, but that situation is self inflicted. I am a strong proponent of fixing and refining instead of adding stuff and bloat.

Like I said, this issue is ongoing from at least version 12 (for me) and it has been brought up time and time again.
Here's a link to just one thread in the past :

edit : for completeness, I have created a thread in the beta forum as well, hopefully this gets picked up and 'resolved' :

Yes. I think this issue appeared after Resolve v12.

I would hope that they can fix this.

Well, this is somewhat disconcerting, given that Resolve is touted as the Industry Standard coloring platform, yet it can't reliably/correctly display colors/LUTs to the right viewers? And this has been going on for years?
