Hello, I need help urgently. My footage in the media pool shows up like static noise and black screen in the timeline. The original clips in the hdd are perfectly playable in VLC. If I try to play it in the timeline I can hear the audio perfectly but I get no picture. What gives? Clips are h.264 and I'm running Resolve 16 in Windows 10. Please help.

Are you in studio?
Can you give more information about the os, cpu, gpu and media type?

I'm not in studio, just the free version. Clips are 8bit 4:2:0 h264 mov files from a fuji xh-1. My OS is Windows 10, CPU is Intel 4770k and my gpu is an AMD RX 580 with 8GBVram. System memory is 16GB. The media is allocated in its own HDD 7200rpm with plenty of space left over, my cache is in a dedicated ssd and my C drive is also a dedicated ssd.

Is the footage 1080?

Free version doesn’t support 4K and I think UHD as well.

If by 4k you mean UHD (3840 x 2160), the free version does support it. I use it all the time. Tate, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, also that the card is properly seated in its slot.
The files my just not be compatible with Resolve even though they are h264. Running in VLC does not guarantee they will work in Resolve.

By 4K I mean 4096 x 2160 for example.
UHD is .. UHD

Can you provide a sample footage?

Hello,

I think you have to buy the Studio version to play the XH1 Clips.

Hey @habibadm, I also get this problem once or twice a week. I've also got a rx 580, but am using the paid version, Davinci Resolve Studio. Luckily, I have a simple work around:

When you start DaVinci Resolve and see all static images with black viewer: 1) close DaVinci Resolve and 2) Reboot Windows. For me resolve always goes back to normal.

From what I've observed when this happens, the type of footage doesn't matter. I've seen it happen to regular ProRes, 4k h264 and 4k h265. Also, turning the amd gpu decode acceleration off or on doesn't make a difference for me. I'm not sure if it's my rx 580 graphics card crapping out or the public beta version of Resolve 16.

Hope that fixes it for you too @habibadm.

FYI - I haven't gotten this issue since I installed a second RX 580 card.

When I get this issue I just quit DR16 and restart it and everything works great. I only work in 1080p and UHD and sometimes 2.7k. I am using a newly built PC based on Ryzen 2 2700 16 gig ram and RX580. It runs great no lags at all just the occasional scrambled source files and time line on startup. Having to restart DR is not a solution. This issues has been going on for a long time; even back at DR14 and before.
