BMPCC 4K Raw Export Settings

PostWed Jun 26, 2019 1:22 am

Hi all,
I couldn't find a thread specifically about this.

I'm definitely a novice with Davinci, and I've found the only way I can export out of Davinci with Blackmagic cameras is either DNxHD 1080p 444 or DNxHR 444 10bit. Any of the more compressed settings, like DNxHD 1080p 220/185/175 10 bit or DNxHR HQX 10 bit crush the blacks and increase the contrast a lot.**

So, what am I missing, if anything? How do I use the more compressed codecs without completely crushing the blacks and losing detail? I feel like a setting somewhere must need to be changed.

Also, to clarify, I've been shooting 8:1 RAW on the BMPCC4K and am using Davinci 15. I always set the data levels to full and check the box next to "Force debayer to highest quality."
However, this occurs on the BMPCC and the BMPC4k, too. Unless I choose 444, everything is crushed.

The primary reason for not wanting to choose those codecs is that the footage is then two to five times the size of the raw files.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

**Please see example images.

I'm realizing the difference isn't as easy to see in these compressed images.
Here is a link that makes it much more apparent: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... -kOZfZDrjh

That's your problem. Use video levels.

John,
Ah, thank you! I figured setting levels at full would result in less compression.
That's a bit confusing, but I'm really glad to have an answer! Thank you!

Do you recommend to check the box next to "Keep data rate constant"?

Thanks again!
