Video not showing. Only Audio

I've searched for how to troubleshoot this and come up with nothing that has worked. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still it will not show the video in either of the two frames though the audio plays. I've followed the tutorials and it still has the same issue.

To be able to help we need some information. What are your system specs including the OS, GPU, version of Resolve, etc? What is the source, codec, and framerate of your video?

I'll have to look later on because I'm new to it all and not familiar with any of it. It's resolve 16 I'm using. Framerate I believe is 28 fps. The rest I don't know so I'd have to Google and look up.

If it's easy to explain how I find those, and you wouldn't mind explaining or directing me to where I could find instructions on that, that would be really nice. Otherwise I'll try to figure it all out once I'm back home.

Are you on the free version? If your files are 4k 10 bit then it will not run them and you will need to convert to a lesser codec.

If it is easier, what make and model of computer are you using? If a PC what version of Windows? If a MAC which version of the MAC operating system?
What is the source of your video?

It's a computer my son built.
Processor: Intel (R), core (TM), i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70 GHz
System type: 64 bit operating system, x64 based processor
Windows 10 pro version 1809

My video source is digital video from a Canon Vixia HFr 800 MP4 files.

I tried both the 16 and the 16.1 beta, free versions. Video isn't showing other than initially sometimes when I double click the file but when I go to play it, it blacks it I and only plays the audio.

Does this still need more information given in order to get help?

Yes: The GPU and its VRAM size.

I believe it's:

GPU RTX2070
VRAM 8 GB

As I said in another message opened here, I am the same. I can only work with version 15. The 16 gives me exactly the same problem as you. This problem I think is from v16. From what I see, you have more machine than me, with more vram, more cpu and other graphics, but the problem persists. I have already seen several complaints here, but no solution for anyone so far.

Check your GPU driver.

I don't know how. It is all brand new though. It's my son's first big purchase after his job.

Go to the nvidia website and look up the latest driver for your GPU there. There is now a choice between gaming and studio drivers. Choose the studio one.

Version 16.1, follows the same problem, as expected, since with beta 3 it didn't work either. Everything remains the same. The viewfinders remain black when edited. If a clip is double clicked, the image appears in the viewfinder for a second, to return to black.
In version 15, it works without problems. At the moment it is impossible to work with 16.x.
When this problem can be solved, I will proceed to purchase the license. Thank you.

It required reinstalling windows, and now it works properly. So just wanted to let people know how it was able to be fixed.

This is what I did and it works. I have VLC. I sent all those videos to VLC and converted them to H.624 + MP3 and resolve now recognizes it and I can edit. Hope this helps someone.
