Roto is making my key black. how do I fix this?

PostWed May 15, 2024 2:02 pm

Hello guys! I'm fairly new to Fusion...

Basically I'm having an issue where I have keyed the sky out of a shot. But since it didn't completely remove what I intended, I added a Polygon node before the media to remove that particularly thing (a tree).
But this makes it pure black... and it messes up my key.

How do I make the key ignore the transparency? Or how do I make it, so that it doesn't go black.

Links to the problem bellow.

Its a matter of inputs.

The Chroma Keyer node includes four inputs in the Node Editor.

— Input: The orange input accepts a 2D image that contains the color you want to be
keyed for transparency.

— Garbage Matte: The gray garbage matte input accepts a mask shape created by polylines, basic primitive shapes, paint strokes, or bitmaps masks. Connecting a mask to this input causes areas of the image that fall within the matte to be made transparent. The garbage matte is applied directly to the alpha channel of the image.

— Solid Matte: The white solid matte input accepts a mask shape created by polylines, basic primitive shapes, paint strokes, or bitmaps masks. Connecting a mask to this input causes areas of the image that fall within the matte to be fully opaque.

— Effect Mask: The optional blue input expects a mask shape created by polylines, basic primitive shapes, paint strokes, or bitmaps masks. Connecting a mask to this input limits the pixels where the alpha multiply occurs. An effects mask is applied to the tool after the tool is processed.

..........................

Your current input (BSpline1) is in blue input, meaning effects mask. If you are trying to remove clean up your chroma key than added it to the gray garbage matte input.

..........................

Key nodes such as Chroma key, or luma key, or Delta key etc. Also act as merge nodes. So you don't really need a merge node that you have added. Its simply extra node, that won't change the effect, but its not needed.

..........................

Try 3D keyer if you like, it has more advance options to make that selections in one go.
