GH5 Mov files won't load in Fusion 9

PostThu Aug 17, 2017 7:39 pm

The loader accepts 10bit MOV from my GH5 but they do not display. When I try to send to one of the viewers I get "Loader1 failed to load file "D:\Video\bmh\9-7\Footage\P1004419.MOV" (clip "D:\Video\bmh\9-7\Footage\P1004419.MOV" at frame 0)
Loader1 failed at time 0"

Prores from the Videodevices Pix-E5 works fine.

I am using the free version of Fusion 9 on Windows.

Thanks

Convert it in a Di format, I also own gh5 and h264 10bit 4:2:2 is very out of standard, then the display is minimum problem of managing it. Also tracking etc is difficult, and not only in fusion, but also in many other software

It's not really out of standard, but part of it. Just not much in use yet.

I think the studio version supports it. If you put up a short clip to test for me, I can verify it.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

if it follow the standard it will loaded easely, but it'snt.
adobe add support of this kind of file only recently, bmd the same with last beta of resolve.
On win10 and sierra Os finders not read and previews that files, if you work at 8bit from same gh5 are reed easily.

Many programs don't support all possibilities defined in the standard for H.264, you'd be surprised how much is theoretically allowed. Camera manufacturers tend to implement features first, software will follow when there is growing demand.

It's the difference between theory and practice in profit-based economy…

Again: are you trying it with the free Fusion or Studio?

It's like prores implementation that no one (FCP exception) use proxy mode of Prores, and many other features :-D
He use free version of Fusion, he wrote in the last line.
I use Studio, but i'm used to convert every shot in DI when i do post, less problems.
GoP codec could cause many headache with tracking and many other task where software need to jump between frames. :-D

I second your notion about transcoding GOP codecs instead of running them natively in a compositing program.

Since the OP didn't post a test file, I got me the public files from neumannfilms instead. I can confirm that the 10 bit files don't load in Fusion Studio, only the 8 bit files (60p) do.

But it's not such a problem, Resolve is loading all of them and you can do the transcoding there. I was impressed, though, that the latest beta of Resolve 14 is playing the files up to 30p just fine on a 2015 MBP, only the 60p footage is not fluid.

The native decoders of Mac and Windows only support H.264 in 8bits. For 10Bit H.264, you need to install FFmpeg. Unfortunately, a bug in Fusion is currently causing the decode error of 10bit H.264 mov and mp4 files even if FFmpeg is installed.

As a temporary workaround, try loading the file after renaming it to mkv. (FFmpeg should be installed in the system)

Renaming to MKV works and they play quite smoothly. Thanks.
