UI threshold setting for user click interaction

PostWed May 23, 2018 7:06 am

Hi, i use Nuke for daily compositing. Now i'm trying to learn fusion. The first thing that bug me is the UI. In Nuke ussually i have threshold setting so i can click and drag something without have to precisely click on the exact position. Here's what i mean , in fusion i had a lot of problem adjust the roto /spline mask. Because when i do it click and move really fast , most of the time i loose the control. So i have to really slow pick the point and drag. In nuke there's threshold setting so i can click not exactly at the roto handle , but still can pick it up. The same thing when in node graph , if i want to connect by drag a connnection line from output , i really have to click precisely in the outpout. This thing make it really slow. is there any setting i can use to control it ? am i missing something here ?

Yes. :D

In the Preferences > Global > User Interface, look for "Grab Distance." It can be increased to up to 10 pixels.

In Preferences > Global > Flow, Pipe grab distance affects how close you have to be to alt-click to make a pipeRouter or shift-drop a node into pipe. Link grab distance is how close you have to be to grab an output or input.

When I moved from Nuke this was my biggest complaint and I still have problems with it set to 10 pixels. It should be able to go to about 50px and be smart enough to work out the closet attachment point in conflict situations. On my 4k monitor I 'miss' about 40% of the time.

I haven't tried it, but what would happen if you opened the .prefs file in a text editor and set it to 50 ? Is there a hardlimit in Fu or is it all configed from the .prefs file ?

Worth testing out....

Hey Alan,

That works! Changed the values in the prefs file and the value is reflected in the prefs flow tab variables.
Had a quick play and it is much less finicky.

For those who are interested search for 'LinkGrabDist' and 'PipeGrabDist' in the prefs file.

Many thanks.

Thanks for testing, thats great news! Its something that's been bugging me too for a while. Glad its just a UI limit and not a hard one.
