Possible to export single file video?

PostSat Nov 09, 2019 9:50 am

Hi folks,

Imagine i have a 10 second long comp, and i want to export it out to send to someone to view.

So far, i have only managed to export each frame as an individual file.

Is there any way to, for example, export a single file, 10 seconds long MP4?

Thanks!

Fusion can export quicktime mov files with prores or h264 codecs. You can set your filename "xxx.mov" and choose codec on the format tab of saver.

Fusion or Fusion inside of Resolve?

In Fusion you can choose a multiframe format like AVI or Quicktime to save a movie, also in mp4 format.

Fusion Studio 16!

So it's not possible to export an MP4 (or other format) as a single file? (so, NOT as multiple separate frames)

Yes, it is. Just use a saver and save to mp4 and you should be all set.

It's under quicktime movies and then select mp4 as a codec, if I remember correctly.

Just one more quickie on this:

When i render out a quicktime file, it has no extension.

However, i can drag it back into Fusion (Studio 16) and it works.

However i can't open it in Resolve.

But if i manually add the .mov extension, then i can bring it into Resolve!

Any ideas?

Make sure to type the extension in the filename field in the Saver. Fusion will do exactly what you tell it to do, including saving a file with no extension. Some versions can also, annoyingly, save a file with the wrong extension if you change the file type with the drop-down and then type a different extension in the field. I think Fusion 9 actually fixed that bug, but it was for sure present in 7. I had a bear of a time figuring out a Targa sequence named .jpg!

Many thanks Bryan, i wasn't even aware that it was possible on Windows to use a file without extension, but i guess some software is "clever"and can work out what the file is.

Yep, extensions are optional; you can have a file without one. And that's why one of the first things I do with a new Windows PC is turn off "Hide extensions for known file types" in Explorer. Not only does it make this kind of error more obvious, but it also protects from malware—it's not unheard of to get a file that you're told is an image, but it's actually an executable!
