How to apply drop shadow to text when using follower

PostWed Dec 04, 2019 1:40 pm

Hey all,

I have a comp in which, I have a background and some text.
I want the text to come sliding in from the side. And I want to use a follower to make the letters come in with delay.

On the text I want to have a slight drop shadow, I made that before I applied the follower modifier to the styled text. But the drop shadow just stays in position, when Im animating the text in the follower modifier.

The method I used to animate the text was I went to the shading tab in the follower and key framed the position for element 1.
And if Im trying to add a drop shadow with element 3 in the followers shading tab, its not showing up at all.

Does anybody know of a way to have a drop shadow on a text and animate it with a follower modifier?

It should work if you have the drop shadow enabled upfront, but then also animate both elements (text & drop shadow) in the follower. Just ensure you're drop shadow has the same offset (relative to the text). I just tested it and it works.

I second what Okke Verbart said. You have to animate under the main shading element and the drop shadow shading element for them both to work with the Follower.

Yes ofc.

And it makes sense since nothing is showing in the follower until its animated.

Huge thanks to both of you for the help!
