PNG alpha layer showing everything too dark behind it -

PostSun Jun 14, 2020 9:12 am

Hey guys, I am trying layer this foreground window layer i made using the merge node in fusion. But it makes everything behind it way to dark. i can't figure out why its doing this. In photoshop it layers perfectly fine.

Its as if the alpha transparancy is not enough in davinci to let the background shine through.

PNGs are usually not premultiplied (unassociated alpha). Fusion doesn't make any assumptions about alpha handling, though, unlike most other software, which hide this step from you. Add an AlphaMultiply node right after the Loader or MediaIn that holds the PNG, and it will probably work as you expect.

Oh, and if you want to make sure that a PNG exported from Fusion is rendered correctly in other software, put an AlphaDivide node right before sending it out. Otherwise it will probably get multiplied a second time, destroying any translucency and/or giving you dark fringes.
