Inconsistent Background Node Masking Behavior?

PostSat Dec 12, 2020 4:54 pm

Hi,

I have a rectangle shape pipe into the mask input of the background.
If the size is 1920 x 1080, you can see the BG with mask properly.
But with a 4k resolution, the visuals disappear.

This is a bit weird since I have worked with several 4k inputs before and it didn't cause me problems (except for now with the background with mask node).

You can check the illustration of the problem here (27 sec video):

I'm actually not entirely sure what's going on there. It seems to be some kind of unexpected interaction between the Domains of Definition. If you change the Edge mode of the Transform to Duplicate, it will work as you expect. Or you could add a Crop out to the format of your larger Background on either side of the Transform.

I think it would probably be a good idea, though, to always conform your matte to the size of whatever your masking.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the response. Slvr.

You are right, I ended up using "to always conform your matte to the size of whatever your masking".
It's bit expensive workflow since I didn't use most of resolution but it works.
