Resolve Studio Fusion page vs Fusion Studio

PostThu May 27, 2021 2:20 pm

I wasn't able to find definite answer for this. Is the Fusion page in Resolve Studio same as the standalone? So I don't need to install the standalone version of Fusion too to have the full experience.

Well, yes and no. While all the features are there, I found the standalone version much more stable.
But maybe it's my limited hardware, Fusion looooves RAM. Get 64 or better 128 GB.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

For me the main difference is workflow. I can't properly work with all my files locked inside a resolve project requiring to create a timeline and issues with the render range, jumping between comps and generally being slower to work in.
On top of that you'll miss out on memory because resolve runs in the background.

And then of course, it's more prone to crashes.

But just try it out yourself. There are people that dislike working in standalone.

There are some other differences, too. There are some Resolve OFX tools that only work on the Fusion page in Resolve, not in standalone. The Loader in Resolve only loads EXRs, I think, but the one in standalone can load any supported image or video format. I believe there are differences in audio handling, but I only use audio in Fusion once in a blue moon, so I'll let someone else talk about that if they feel so inclined.

One small correction, the Loader can load multiple image formats, but the Saver only saves to Exr.

My mistake. You say image formats; is it video formats it can't load? Or am I mistaken about that, too?

It seems to only load image formats.

That's like 1/5 the number for formats that Fusion Studio supports. Note that according to BMD, Resolve supports a lot more formats, but only via MediaIn, which means Fusion doesn't have access to the metadata directly.

Fusion Studio also supports larger images, network rendering, Primatte, ProRes, bin servers, etc..
