Sports team play tracking

PostThu Apr 04, 2024 5:44 pm

I know there are lots of post about tracking and player tracking, but I have not seen anything about tracking the 'game play' within in a scene.

This might well be out of the remit or scope of DaVinci Resolve, but I wondered if anyone might know a clever way to achieve this.

So..... I have a single locked off camera covering the whole of a basketball court.

I would like to try and track the group of players or where the motion on the wide video and then track a zoomed version.

The result being a nicer close up of the play.

Any ideas would be most welcome, or ay constructive comments. I'm not even sure if this is possible

Many thanks

Resolve has a smart reframe option but not sure it would do anything useful here. I have never used it myself but the idea is that it does some people detection and tries to keep them (or single person, not sure what the limits are) in frame.

You could try adding an Ellipse mask node and keyframe it moving it around to where the play is happening throughout the game. You could then use the path of the Ellipse to connect the center of a zoomed-in shot that would then follow the action. You could use something like in this video to do the zoom-in effect.

RTX-3060 12 GB | Resolve Studio 18.6.6| Fusion Studio 18.6.6

GTX-1060-6GB | Resolve 17.4.6
