Volume fire question

PostMon Nov 17, 2014 4:44 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to Fusion. I am an interior scene visualizer and many of my scenes include a fireplace. Is there a method where I can add a volume fire to a still image then render it out so the fire burns.

Sorry if this is silly question :-)

Regards,

George

Welcome to Fusion...
Not a silly question at all. The simple answer would be: Yes.

The not so simple answer is: Of course you can use your still as background and layer on it whatever you want. Question is: Where is your fire from? Do you have some footage of a burning fire or do you want to create it within Fusion? In that case you would have to get into particles because there is no "create fire" preset as far as I know.
Further on you might require some masking, if your fireplace is partially behind furniture in your still.
If it is supposed to look right, you might add some lighting effects coming from the fire and reflecting on other parts of your interior shot.

So, yes it is possible, but it requires some work.

Win 10 pro, Ryzen 9 5900X, 128 GB, M.2 for media

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your reply. I managed to add a fire using a preset in Fusion, the preset does the job. My issue now is to get the flames to burn smoothly. Also, (a different topic) how do I then render/save the scene as, for example an mp4.

I'm planning on covering the tuts but I have a deadline to meet this week :-)

Thanks again for your reply,

Regards,

George

While you're at it, look into Camera Mapping, which allows you to turn a still image into a 3d (sort of) image you can (sort of) move around in.

It's useful for understanding the concept. Once you understand the principle, you can look up how to do it in Fusion.

Hi Lee,

Fantastic, thank you very much. I use Cinema 4D for my 3D visuals but as you said, it's understanding the concept. Thanks again, will let you know how I get on,

All the best,

George

There is a example of a "fire" effect on vimeo (with link to the tutor):
vimeo com/9777734
and you can find other examples by searching "eyeon fusion fire" on google.
