EDL Import

PostTue Nov 25, 2014 8:43 pm

Hey to all!
Had someone a success with EDL import in Fusion? (not Generation, but Fuion).
Doing Import->EDL select *.edl file then select root folder, but all Loaders contains the same file and all Loaders are not trimmed..((

from where did you export the EDL? the error message sounds like your format isnt supported by edlimport script.

yeah,
but that should be in Fusion 7.5 studio version - via Generation.
Generation did import of EDL, even DPX, (which is more important to me btw.) and i hope it has been / will be enhanced / replaced with "Resolve EDL importing" - as Resolve didn't have as many problems with EDL and DPX ;)

waiting for the Studio :)

Hi All,

I'm Peter Bako, the creator of the script. You are right, free version doesn't support FCP currently.

I'm working on the Fu7.5 compatibility currently, so the official support is on the way.

Cheers,

Hi,
I do have python script for conforming dpx files, quicktimes and red raw files by EDL(s). But it is external script that calls Fusion, so it doesn't work with Fusion 7.5 free. It also depends on ffmpeg and redline to properly read metadata. When Studio will be released, I can update it for 7.5 if we will still need it.

However, I do not think it is very practical approach to create edit in compositing application. I would say it is actually very painful. I was abusing Fusion like this for several years (commercials) and it is not pretty.

Let's hope for more elegant solution with (updated) Generation. Or at least calling Fusion from Resolve, with version up down similar to Hiero - Nuke "bridge". Fingers crossed.

If you are interested, the script works with the latest Fusion version, too. ;)

Hi Mikhail,
you may try to export your timeline as XML, import in Fusion can be done with the "Final Cut Pro / Premiere XML Importer" from "We Suck Less" forum. The XML importer should work in most cases, however, additional functions as frame rate conversion and resizing are not really production-ready yet.

Hi,
If you still need a solution for EDL(s), you can try my conform tool that exports Fusion comps. It works with free version of Fusion, and outputs assembled edit as a comp, plus per shot comps for your compositors. You can use templates for nodes after loader and before saver.
You can get it at http://vfxutilities.com/vfx-conform/
Hth,
Jirka
