Hi,

i may be completely stupid, but i am really unable to figure out which mode of merge tool is equivalent of ADD operation. I will be thankful for any clue.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
for Add in merge node, use Apply mode: Normal, Operator: Over as for normal merge, and set Alpha Gain slider to 0.

Thank you very much. So what exactly does Alpha gain do in this case. I find a bit confusing there is a slider which blends between over and add mode. As one seems to be math operation while other one seems to be blend operation.

"Alpha Gain linearly scales the values of the foreground’s alpha channel. In subtractive merges, this controls the density of the composite, similarly to Blend. In additive merges, this effectively reduces the amount that the background is obscured by, thus brightening the overall result. In an additive merge with Alpha Gain set to 0.0, the foreground pixels are simply added to the background."

Thank you :)

Now it makes perfect sense...

hi,
if You specifically want to use Add / Over merge operation - You can use Add / Over Fuses - these are faster in rendering, because of limited options (i.e. no transform, filtering, also clipping outside of the image format).
