Allign image plane to camera?

PostMon May 18, 2015 3:54 am

As I am learning Fusion, I have not been able to find this anywhere. When comping multiple image planes or any for that matter with a 3d camera and merge 3d node, is there a way to precisely have an image plane of the same resolution of a 3d render node occupy the entire frame?

I know could do it the quick and dirty way by arbitrarily adjusting the camera's position, but given the advanced features of Fusion, I know there must be a better way (especially when animation becomes a factor). Whether it be through expressions, modifiers, or some core feature that I'm probably completely oblivious to, anyone know the best way to tackle this?

You can pipe the image directly into the Camera
(and have as many cameras as you want instead of imageplanes).
Adjust the depth in the Camera's image-tab to place your image distance-wise.

Thanks Toulouse. That is a very cool functionality that I would have never thought to do. The only tricky part is that it seems to add a degree of isolation from other 3d systems such as particles (No matter what they appear on top which I could see being very useful in other circumstances) Do you know of a way to reconcile these together or would this approach require an extra degree of masking?

Hi Corey.

By default the Camera's ImagePlane sits at a distance of 100.
The ParticleEmitter's default-position is 0.
When you move the emitter (or the entire Particle Setup by menas of a 3D Transform)
behind (or inbetween) your CameraImages the occlusion should work just fine...:-)

Alternatively you can of course modify the Camera's ImagePlane distance(s) to suit.

Thanks so much Toulouse. Your answer was so helpful. Seeing the project file also gave me insight into better organizing my nodes (Keeping separation/structure with the multiple merge 3ds).
