You can (or you atleast have been able to-) do this in Windows, change screen resolution to 640x480 and you will not be able to fit the windows and GUI you need to get it back to a higher resolution.
In the end, it's just hard to preemptively figure out what crazy stuff us users will do and counter that, or as a very intelligent man once put it...
