Audio

PostTue Sep 15, 2015 2:11 pm

Hi,
I'm new to Fusion, looking to see what's better in it than AE.
The biggest hurdle I'm having is no audio support. I mean, just basic audio play of a video clip, nothing special, although AE has a few nice things in it's audio arsenal.

It's going to be hard for me to buy into Fusion without it. I need to time things to the frame, and without that reference, it's not going to work.
Yeah, I've seen some of the "workarounds" - using a Saver and Importing it back into the Scene. Didn't work.
I don't need to go through hoop jumping just to do what I consider a basic function.

Why no audio support? If it's because big houses have people who can sit around writing timecode numbers out from a separate audio App, BM would do well to at least equal the AE capabilities, because that's where the world really is. I don't think you want to alienate your real target market...AE
Most of us are small and can't afford to use workarounds.

Lot's of other work to accomplish yet, keep it up!

Audio support is weak but not non-existant. Have you tried right clicking the audio icon? And adding a wav file to the saver should show the waveform in the timeline if I remember correctly.

i can imagine that the audio workflow is in that state because it wasnt much need for it.
even if fusion was ever promoted as a software that can do motion graphics it main use was in "classic" vfx/cgi compositing. where mostly the image is the only thing you care about.

Also because previously there was no version of Fusion that didn't load plugins so everyone had Krokodove.

Thanks for the replies.
The rest of you seem to be taking this in stride.
I was under the impression that Fusion would be good for Motion Graphics, and if audio is what is preventing it from being that way, I guess I'm out of luck.
I can think of no situation where all I cared about was the video. How do you time anything (other than importing a list of timecode numbers derived from the video/audio - like AE or Final Cut.

Am I wrong in thinking BM is not competing with these guys and trying to stel people away?

Fusion was designed for visual effects. Motion graphics is something it can do, but it's not what it was designed for.

That said, you can get audio playback in Fusion. Should it support more audio formats? Sure. But if you're willing to set your audio up correctly, it can work.
