BMCC Moire Reduction in Fusion

PostTue Mar 08, 2016 1:12 am

Hey all, I wanted to pass on a template I made that has saved my but a few times now when that nasty BMCC moire shows up.
I basically transposed a well documented procedure for doing so in Photoshop to a workflow in Fusion. There are many post on the internet describing this method. Here is one of them:

https://photographylife.com/how-to-remo ... -photoshop

I have to say that I don't really know how this method works at each level, but after copying it over to Fusion, it works, so I'm happy about that. However, to those compositor gurus out there, if there is a better, or more streamlined way of achieving this, I'd love to know.

Of course, doing this to hundreds or thousands of frames is more involved than Photoshop, but I guess that's the nature of the (Video)beast. That being said, most of the time it isn't so bad. I'm surprised with how much I can get away with by keeping my masks soft and doing some pretty rudimentary tracking/keyframing.

I'll attach some files and screenshots of the workflow. Let me know what you think.

They obviously look much worse with video, but that's the idea.

Elegant. I like it. Thanks!
No, I'm not one of those composite gurus you spoke of... just a newbie. I've just begun my voyage into Fusion for these very purposes and others as well. I like how you've laid out the images revealing the node decisions and their explanations... very nice template!

I know this is an old thread, but is there any way for you to export this as a preset for fusion? I will try to build this on my own if I have to, but I am pressed for time with bunch of projects, but I would like to try this out. I have a clip that has moire on it that I would like to try.
