Fusion 8 appears much too small on a 4K-screen (32 inches)

PostTue Jul 25, 2017 5:30 pm

Hello dear forum members,

I'm new here and would like to test Fusion 8 and get involved.

While Da Vinci Resolve 14 (and all other programs on my workstation) appears in correct (readable and operable) size on my 4K screen ASUS PA328Q, Fusion 8 unfortunately is much too small. The fonts are hardly readable and the buttons hardly accessible.

Operating system: Win 8.1 64bit, display setting: element size user-defined = 180%

Apparently, Fusion 8 does not react to the user-defined element size of 180%, but remains at 100%, while Da Vinci Resolve 14 does this!

So Fusion 8 is not usable on a 4K monitor with 32 inch diagonal! It should be twice as big. How can this problem be solved without having to buy a 64 inch 4K monitor?

Under "File> Preferences> Global to Default Settings> Video Monitoring", there is the item "Monitor Output". But I can not use that. Everything is grayed out there. And when I choose "Enabled", I get the message:
"Monitor-Output-Feature is unavailable in Fusion. Please upgrade to FusionStudio ..."
But probably the problem is not resolved.

Of course Fusion has less features than Fusion Studio. But that Fusion can not be used at all on a 4K screen, although it offers UHD-format too, can not be among the deliberate restrictions. Or is it?

Thank you very much for your help.
Regards, Walter

PS.: Attached is a screenshot of Da Vinci 14 Resolve (OK) and a screenshot of Fusion 8 (not to be use).

You could try going to

File->Preferences->Global and default settings->User Interface-> UI scale -> 200% and see if that helps.

Thanks a lot for this tip! This solves the problem!

The "user interface" was not noticeable to me (in the small font size I had simply not recognized *) and was so far not in the Google search too. Probably this will change with this thread now.

*) But I must admit that my English is not really good and that I use very often the Google Translator. If you do not already know from the start that you have to look for "user interface" to solve the problem - and if Da Vinci Resolve 14 does not
have the problem at all, because it sets itself correctly - it is also heavy with the help of the translator.

Then an experienced master can not be replaced by anything!
Best regards, Walter

Ideally, the installer should detect the resolution and set this preference appropriately.

The Da Vinci Resolve installer could do this. The Fusion installer unfortunately does not.

Fusion, if left on "auto" UI scale, will already set itself to 200% if your Windows DPI is set to 200% or more.

My Windows resolution is set to custom 180% (at 200% the icons are too big).
It would be helpfull if the Fusion 8 installer set per default to "auto". It didn't, and I did not know that I had to do this manually.

But since it works with Da Vinci Resolve (already since v12), I am sure that Fusion 9 will not have the problem any more.

By the way: If I understand correctly, "Avid Composer" is not yet able to adapt to a 4K screen - neither automatically, nor manually. Amazing!

Anyone know how to fix this on MacOS? As you can see that option doesn't appear. It's been driving me blind.

On OSX there is no option, it automatically adjusts to 200% for Retina modes, or 100% for other. This is pretty much the way everything works on OSX?
