How to export a Point Cloud from Fusion 9

PostSat Aug 05, 2017 4:06 pm

Now that camera tracking is finally available in Fusion, has anyone figured out how to export a point cloud?
Cheers, Konrad

Just wondering that myself. IT would be very useful to export camera track and point cloud to FBX or other 3d program formats. Is that possible? its the only thing I need to know to go studio. Anyone out there have any insight?

No, it doesn't. Not directly, at any rate. If it's a crucial need, I could see using a Replicate 3D to scatter geo onto the points, then converting them back to locators with a script in the 3D software. A little janky, but it would get the job done. Probably.

Still no solutions here?
I would love to export the tracker with camera, image plane and point clouds to Maya. (If not I just "wasted" $300 :( )

I might have found a workaround here:
When you have created your PointCloud, make sure you select the ones you'd like to export in the viewport and right click and choose PointCloud3D1 -> Create Shape. Then Fusion will create cubes in all of each point selected positions.
Now you can export your scene with FBXExporter to your 3D-software and scale these cubes to your desired size.

Good idea, I was hoping to use Locator3D objects for more elegance, but even if I select them to be renderable, they unfortunately don't get exported by the fbx format.

Hmmm... If I select the point cloud, and/or select the PointCloud3d1 node the create shape option is greyed out for me. I am trying to do this through Davinci 15 not Fusion.... perhaps that's why.

anybody else having this issue?

Hey Konrad,

What is the purpose of exporting the point cloud info? I am messing aroud with a script at the moment that exports the PC data and turns it into a a mesh so I have managed to extract the cloud data for use in Lua.

Hi there,
I was reading this thread and though I don't have any particular need in this field, I wonder wether a Mocha node could do the trick or not (assuming you have Mocha ofx in Fusion, of course).
Because I cannot try right now, but I know I import points clouds from Mocha standalone in Fusion by exporting Mocha's camera solver FBXs scenes; it might be doable in the opposite way...
*MacMini M1 16 Go - Ext nvme SSDs on TB3 - 14 To HD in 2 x 4 disks USB3 towers
*Legacy MacPro 8core Xeons, 32 Go ram, 2 x gtx 980 ti, 3SSDs including RAID
*Resolve Studio everywhere, Fusion Studio too
