Fusion 9: Scripting languages: Lua or Python?

PostMon Aug 14, 2017 8:16 am

Hi,

I just acquire Fusion 9 and while waiting for delivery, I read the manuals.

One of the functions that interests me the most are the scripts that allow reuse. I read that there were 2 languages: Lua or Python.

Lua would be more complete compared to Python. Is Python really more limited?

Advices ?
:)
(I do not know either, rather the C ++ or other language)

Python's a more powerful language in most cases. There are more external libraries available, and a heck of a lot more people using it. Plus, most vfx programs take Python, while only a couple can use Lua. Lua, on the other hand, has a much more forgiving syntax, and it's easier to read (to me). Also, if you plan to write Fuses (custom scripted tools), those are written in Lua.

If you're just getting started and just using Fusion, I'd start with Lua. It's very fast and it's used in more ways in Fusion. Unless you had a specific Python library you wanted to use, there isn't really much reason to use Python in Fusion.

Thank you very much for the advice.

I start with Lua which allows the greatest potential. :)
