Looking for advanced file naming solution

PostThu Aug 17, 2017 7:44 pm

Hi there,

I am looking for a way to match the output file names of an image sequence to a data set. I'm using fusion to comp a product line that I've rendered out of a 3D app as an image sequence. I basically animated the visibility of each piece on and off per frame. I'm delivering the files in pieces by material and it will be assembled on a webpage down the road. The web team is asking if I can name each file by their matching SKU number which I have laid out in an excel sheet. Is there anyway of doing this?

Real quick option is to save to an IFL. It's basically a plain text list of the file names you want to save to in order.

So if your pattern was 230343_full.png, 230343_thumb.jpg, 560215_full.png, 560215_thumb.jpg, etc., you just save the list to a .ifl file and line 1 will be what is saved at the first frame of your render, line 2 the second frame, etc.

You can load the IFL, too, so you can verify your work.

Dunno what OS you use, but in Windows, a command like

Code: Select all
dir *.exr /s /b > Recursive_EXR_List.ifl

will make the file that you can put in you LD and SV and will process one image per frame.

Can I use an IFL to drive the naming of file sequences by my saver? Or does this give me a report only?

as far as I know, IFLs also drive the saver names. They can be pretty useful.

Yeah, it replaces sequence naming with specific names (and formats) per frame.

The only downside is you don't get control over the format settings. It basically will do the defaults.
