Fu 8 stops launching at NeatVideo 4 ofx load

PostMon Aug 21, 2017 9:00 am

Hi there,

Everything said in then title. On my Mac, Fusion stops at launch when I can read on the start splash screen that Neat vido ofx v.4 is launched.
I can also say that this specific NV4 ofx is perfectly launched and usable in Resolve.

Someone with these versions here ? Any hint ?
Thx in advance.

Are you using the latest version of NeatVideo? Current version is v4.5. According to their change logs, they added support for Fusion Studio 8 in v4.2.

Hey,

Thanks a lot for you answer. The version is indeed 4.1.x if I remember well, this may therefore be the cause...

As I actually intended to use this ofx plugin in Resolve (where it works as expected), I'll take it out from the ofx folder before any launch of Fusion so far...
I'll find a workaround later on; thx again for your quick answer

there is a solution, you can blacklist specific OFX plugins:

While there is no GUI to do this, it *is* possible to blacklist OFX plugins such that Fusion won't load them. You need to create a text file in your Fusion Profile: directory called "FusionOFX.blacklist", and put the full path to OFX plugin bundles that you wish to disable, one per line. Make sure you get it exact, it's probably case sensitive.

So for example, if I wanted to disable Mocha Pro 5 on macOS, I would create the file "~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Fusion/Profiles/Default/FusionOFX.blacklist", with a single line:

Code: Select all
/Library/OFX/Plugins/mochaPro5.ofx.bundle

And this will prevent it loading that particular plugin bundle.

Whaoo, thx a lot Michael, this will prevent me to take the bundle out of the OFX folder each time I want to launch Fusion or initiate a Fusion Connect from Resolve :P
Super cool, great and efficient workaround, I'll try today.
Thx for the tip

Why don't you just update your neatvideo to the latest version? If you already have 4.1 then as far as I remember version 4.5 is a free update.

The early 4.x versions of neat video were really buggy.

Hey Miltos,

Yep, if it's a free update, why not (but afaik, not all neat updates are free, reason why I din't even check, I confess).
But above all, I intended to use this OFX in Resolve, not Fusion. 1st because Resolve is my main software now, so I don't want to roundtrip for a potential denoise when I can stay in the main NLE, and second because Fusion Studio is cool but only works on OpenCL (you see what I mean in the field of denoising, I prefer CUDA for sure...) and therefore Resolve.

But thx for the piece of news, I'll check soon

As a quick technical comment Sam,

Since Neat Video is implemented as an external OFX plugin module, its choice of hardware acceleration support (CUDA, CPU, OpenCL) and how Neat Video processes the imagery internally as a plugin would likely be separate from the hardware acceleration settings that Fusion Studio uses for the built-in nodes in your composite.

What I mean by this is if Neat Video wanted to, they can fully use CUDA in their own denoising code in an OFX module that can run in Fusion.

Hey Andrew,

Yep I think I understand your point; you mean that Neat denoiser OFX could use CUDA acceleration inside Fusion Studio GUI which is based on OpenCL, right ?
In this case, I could make tests comparing Neat ofx in Resolve to the same in Fusion.
However, at render time...

If you do any such tests, please post your results; I'd be very interested in hearing about them!

I will if I do tests, but I'm more into GPUs choice these times.

So far, I can tell that the blacklist trick Michael proposed above doesn't work (Fusion tries to load the bundle anyways)

Check your file paths and names, make sure everything is correct. Might help if you go into your Finder prefs, under "advanced", check the box that says "show all filename extensions" just in case your FusionOFX.blacklist file is really FusionOFX.blacklist.txt or something.

Worked...on windows i had to show extensions, and get rid of the .txt extension.

I also had to put it in the default folder inside the profiles folder.

Also, i had to do two lines. One pointing to the outside folder, and one pointing to the plugin itself.
If i remove either of these lines, it doesn't work.

Yeah, thank you Glenn :D
Works now with :
/Library/OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo4.ofx.bundle
/Library/OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo4.ofx.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NeatVideo4.ofx
(maybe the 2nd one's enough, didn't try)
