Opacity Follower, Text

I was trying the Follower to twist Text on but Opacity animation kills the speed and pretty much crashes Fusion, with a short paragraph of text. Can you 'Cull back faces' for text (2D or 3D)? Any other workarounds?

I've tried this in Fusion 8 and it's slow-ish but much better. That's got to be a bug, right?
When I tried animating more than one parameter in the Follower in Fusion 9 (and 9.0.1) it becomes unusably slow. Works in Fusion 8.

OK, I've found what's killing it - too much text and therefore a need for a 'Last character' range of 300 in the Follower Timing tab. Just a couple of lines of text is fine, more than that and it get's very, very clunky.
