Solid Works import

SOLIDWORKS import to Fusion

I am trying to import a Solid Works 3D object into Fusion for a promotional video. The object has moving parts like a Leatherman multi-tool. I'd like the import to retain all the movements as well as the ability to explode the parts out so I can time the motion to my voice over and bullet points. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

SolidWorks describes 3D objects in a way that is not compatible with polygonal modeling based 3D, so I highly doubt it is directly possible in any poly based 3D software, let alone Fusion. Your best bet is to export from SW to some poly format (obj, fbx etc) and try to import that.

If you export from Solidworks as STI format (which it can) and from there you can then import into Blender, you might have to enable this import options in the User Preferences under add-ons and in the categories import-export.
Once in Blender you can make any adjustments reqired and export to Fusion as OBJ, FBX or any number of others you might need.
Hope that helps ;-).
