frames start at sequence vs 0

PostTue Jan 02, 2018 9:02 pm

i cannot get my comps to start at the correct frame number despite having my preferences set to start at sequence.
is this a bug or is there something that does not function correctly based on my method?
what i do:
set prefs to 'frames start at sequence'
bring in a loader with frames [in my example, starting on 1001]
drag and drop to timeline
frames start at zero instead of 1001.

what i expect: frame should begin on 1001 once i drag that loader to the timeline.
sanity check: loader has trimj in at 1001 = yes
but global in is at zero

so what is going wrong here?
thanks,

There is nothing wrong here as far as I know. The 'start from sequence' is - if I recall correctly - a way to *view* the framecount of your loader, nothing more, nothing less. Having your loaders come in with the actual frame range visible instead of everything starting at 0 makes lining up/matching to time code much easier. I don't think what you were after was ever a feature.

Fusion is all relative.

Timeruler has it's global in/out
Loaders have their global in/out
Loaders have their trim in/out

Sequence start does not affect any of the above. it's simply a visual display in the trim for your clip frames numbering. Options are always 0, always 1, or sequence which will show the first frame in the trim as it is on disk. If your render passes start at 1001, that is the frame number you will see as trim start.
That is not however what you will see in the timeruller. That is still relative until you set the values to be explicit to your requirements. You have to set it to 1001 in the timeruller.

Loaders global in/out do NOT have to fit within the timeruller global in/out as well.
You can have your global in on timeruller to 1001, but a loader can have a global in of 900, which is the same as triming 101 frames off the head of your clip in the trim slider

confused yet? try that with clip list!!

I thought clip lists were removed in Fusion 9. Are they back?

Oh no, just referring to the mess that was to keep track of.

Hello! I have the same issue and unfortunately don't know haw to solve it. Manually adjust "global in" to the desired frame not so comfortable offcourse. Could you feed back if you have any idea to solve it?
Thanks,
Dima.
