More project-based tutorials please.

I am new to Fusion and I really want to dive in and wrap my head around this puppy. Working with other effects and 3D based programs, I have found that one of the best ways to learn powerful software like Fusion are project-based tutorials.

Through project-based tutorials, you can learn multiple tools and how these tools can work together. I have found that project-based tutorials are one of the best ways to learn software.

I bought Fusion 9 Studio because I felt for the price point I was quite fortunate in obtaining a powerful program. I am more than willing to pay for project-based tutorials and tutorials sold as a series. I know Fusion isn't Blackmagic Design's main product, but one in a series of amazing products.

I seriously want to learn Fusion. Show me that you're serious about Fusion, too.

Well, it appears that Vito's full tutorials are only accessible as a patron through his Patreon channel. Unfortunately, I am unable to contact Vito since the Patreon web site is garbage. I tried writing to Vito through the Patreon site, but the two choices they give you to contact a creator on Patreon DO NOT WORK.

If there is another way of buying Vito's tutorials, I would love to know.

You can buy them directly from Vimeo:
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/confusionslebucksring

Vimeo's navigation has changed for the worse recently; that was really difficult to find.

Also, Vito's pretty easy to reach through his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/vitofusion/

That looks cool. Does he have any other project based tutorials?

If you buy them separately on Vimeo you'll go broke.

Donn't know your reservations about Patreon, but pledge 10$/month and you get full access. It's cheap even for this spanish 3th division freelancer and forum flooder  .

Thanks, Ignacio. But, does he have any other tutorial series besides the "Ring" one he's selling?

As for a series, I don't think Vito has anything else quite like LeBucks. However, he does have a lot of unique, great content that can teach you a lot about Fusion. He's a great source for Fusion learning, no doubt.

Back to your question specifically about project-based tutorials, though... Here's one from FXPHD that always peaked my interest: https://www.fxphd.com/details/537/

What kind of project-based tutorials are you looking for? Something dealing with keying, live-action/CG integration, 3D tracking, etc?

Exactly. All of those types of projects.

cmiVFX has a large number of new Fusion tutorials done since BMD takeover. So they are quite fresh. I can't vouch for the quality for all of them but from what I've seen it's good enough for beginners. There was one I used to watch and I loved but it's been gone from the website since. I even forgot the name of the tutorial but tutor was a guest, he had some vfx research background.

Also FXPhd has some new classes as well. They used to be pricey back in the day.

You just have to keep one thing on your mind while watching tutorials, Fusion like any other compositor including Photoshop can do one thing in multiple ways so it's really about settling down with the workflow you are most comfortable with. Once you do that and once you are familiar with the tools you can watch any Nuke tutorial to go deeper into compositing science and pretty much replicate the results in Fusion. Or close enough anyway.

Thanks, Vladimir.
I just subbed to FXPHD and downloaded their latest Fusion tutorial series. Which involves 3D projection, and compositing 3D passes, as well as using actual 3D objects inside of Fusion; which is awesome.

I'll look into cmiVFX. I was subbed to them a while back when I was learning Nuke. Which were quite good. I've actually used Nuke for many years as a VFX artist on over 35 feature films. I'm switching, and purchased Fusion 9 Studio, because I want to be able to use a full VFX program for my own projects as well as any projects that come my way.

Hi Todd,

Sounds like you've got a lot of experience with Nuke already, majority of that knowledge could easily be translated to Fusion. Sure some names are different but methodologically they're identical.

Check out my nuke2fusion nodes below if you're feeling stuck, also the general help PDF is useful as well as the Tool PDF that ships with Fusion.
