Particle Sets - where in the manual?

PostThu Jan 18, 2018 3:08 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to find information on particle sets. The tools manual keeps referring to the "common controls in the particles chapter" but where is it? There doesn't seem to be any mention at all of particles in the user manual.

Anybody have a page number?

thanks in advance!

Particle sets can be pretty useful. It's a way to make particles part of a 'group' so to say, so that you can have different particle tools affect different groups of particles i.e. when you have fireworks that changes shape with a pSpawn, you can have the newly created particles be part of a new set, so that they won't be affected by the original pDirectionalForce etc.

Does that make sense to you?

Hmmm. That's "position tools" in my version?

I'm using the latest version from the Blackmagic website I believe but perhaps that section is missing.

I've only just started exploring the particle system and it looks quite powerful. What with the expressions and custom controls (and duplicator to render geometry). Looking forward to exploring it - just wish the manual was better!

Which manual are you using? You should use the Tool Reference Manual that comes up when you press F1 when working in Fusion.

Yep - tools manual. Page 612 is "position tools".

When you downloaded Studio 9.02 it came with the latest version of the manual (20-12-2017) and on page 612 there are the 'sets'.
I have no idea why you don't have that in your version.

The manual that comes up when I do a web search for Fusion Tool Manual is dated July 2017 and has the info on page 611.

In any case, the relevant controls are in the Conditions tab of all particle tools except pEmitter and pRender. I have no idea where the purported Particles chapter of either the User Guide or Tool Reference are. I think it's like the Fuse Reference—referred to but never actually written.
