Hello Forum!

I am very interested in Fusion and totally new to VFX. Since I am used to use Linux(Debian) (for several daily tasks, not for VFX), my platform of choice for Fusion would be Linux/CentOS.


Is there any disadvantage of selecting Linux for running Fusion on?

I could immagine that the following is more complicated under Linux:
- finding Fonts for Linux (OpenType? TrueType? Postscript?)
- calibrate the monitor (as much as I do know, even self calibrating monitors like the Eizo CG230 or CG3184k do require a software running on the OS)
- probably some plugins are only running on Windows and MacOS...

Running Fusion 9.0.2 Studio on Ubuntu Linux 17.10
Runs nice.

Disadvantages to OSX/Win:

- No Krokodove Plugins
- Network render does not work under Linux
- Less support (Low priority support)

If you can life with that, go for it!

Same here on the last three Fedora releases.

I am not running it commercially so I will not make any bold statements, but please keep in mind that (potentially) a majority of vfx and animation studios run Linux, like in my day job.

If you are comfortable with Linux I see little reason to switch OS because of Fusion, other than you like headaches and home sickness

Do you mean less support from the community/forum memebers, or less support from BMD,
probably because their main development platform for Fusion is not Linux?
