how to properly add a range control to a tool ?

PostTue Apr 24, 2018 3:18 pm

I'm trying to understand how to properly define the Low and High values of a range control I'm adding to a tool. I've fiddled with it a bit and I'm finding the UI in the Edit Control window not so intuitive in this case... The user guide doesn't really get so specific about it... I was somehow able to do it successfully once, but not since then... I think I understand correctly that it's actually 2 separate parameters each with a unique ID somehow sharing a control but is there any documentation of how to properly create that setup using the Edit Control window ? Thanks

maybe I kind of answered my own question after posting... A range control is a "group" with one ID assigned to be "Low" and a second ID assigned to be "High" - it seems awkward in that I seem to need to close the Edit Controls window (to commit changes and create the group with one of the 2 parts of the range defined) and then to reopen the window to setup the 2nd part of the range - but maybe I just don't understand how to do it right : ) In any case, I have a way to do it now

Yeah, grouped controls are painful to set up in the Edit Controls dialog. I usually just add a random dummy control to my tool, then copy and paste it into a programmer's text editor and set it up there. There's a good document in the old VFXPedia on the topic:
https://www.steakunderwater.com/VFXPedi ... r_Controls

It's not quite comprehensive, but it covers most of what you'd need. There's nothing in there about the Viewer controls or the Point control.
