Fusion Studio wont open on iMac

PostFri Jun 22, 2018 8:15 am

Hi
Ive been using the free version of Fusion on my iMac for some time and have loved using it.
My main software is Nuke and I hoped now buying Fusion studio would be a great additional asset.
Ive followed the instructions for installing the software and dongle but it will just not start.
I get the splash screen then dialogue box saying it cant be opened.
Ive tried different usb ports for the dongle but with no luck.

Can anyone help me?

I did uninstall the free version.

Many thanks

Simon

os High Sierra v10.13.4

Thanks for the replies. Black magic said it could be an OFX plugin problem? Im not sure. Could there be a conflict with Nukes license server? Works on a mac mini at home which is good but not what I need.!

Are you sure you don't have any other versions of Fusion installed?

I used to run both versions on my MBP for a while, it worked fine.

As for you SimonL,

I sometimes have trouble with Fusion Studio on my MBP. It's like sometimes the app does not quit completely and something is preventing it from reopening when that happens. Rebooting the computer makes Fusion work again but it is annoying.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Ive removed every bit of earlier versions of Fusion( free version) and Resolve(freeVersion) as far as I can see
going through countless folders. Ive re-installed the software restarted my iMac then opened Fusion Studio
and it fails again on the splash screen. I really don't know what else I can do. Ive no anti virus software running. Oh and the dongle is plugged in.
Currently Im on a network but I wonder if its a conflict with Nuke licensing causing the problem?. On the plus side I have a little mac mini at home and guess what, It works on that( No Nuke ). So I can potter about with it there but thats no help to me work wise. I have had some correspondence with Black Magic which is really good to know. They have suggested a possible conflict with OFX plugins.I have Optical Flares and NeatVideo running but I cant remove them as I need them on a daily basis and frankly they are such a pain to install I dont want to touch them.

Kind regards

I know it would be time consuming, but if you can, clean install OS X on an external drive with nothing else and boot from it, install Fusion Studio on it and see if it works. If this works start rebuilding the apps and plugins library you have, 1 item at the time and try opening Fusion Studio after each install.

Also, I know Apple removed it and is now saying it is useless, but repairing permissions still help sometimes, if you have not already tried it.

Other than that, try sacrificing a chicken or two to Joboo, make sure it is live chicken because he does not like fried chicken.

Hey,
Just a word to tell you I don't think an OFX conflict would result in that behavior, for I had some too and only saw the warning message populated with every ofx which won't work ...without preventing Fusion to open afterwards.
To be sure, I found a way here around on the forum which indicated to create a file text placed in a blacklist folder you create etc etc... Neat was one of them btw. Maybe you could find it here : this allows you keep each ofx where they are (to work in other apps) and to investigate further.

Thanks for the help.

If I remove the OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo.ofx.bundle folder Fusion starts fine.

The Neatvideo file is an alias to the plugin somewhere else on my iMac.

Ive tried following some advice about creating a file in my Fusion/Profiles/Defaults/FusionOFX.blacklist with the text "/Library/OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo.ofx.bundle" without the quotes. But this hasn't worked. Could this be because its an alias?

Good news though I can get it to work.

Ok, good news for you.
Now, this is where it is :

1/ /users/YOU/library/application support/blackmagic design/Fusion/profiles/Default/ and the file inside is named "FusionOFX.blacklist"
2/ in the file, two lines only :
Code: Select all
/Library/OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo4.ofx.bundle
/Library/OFX/Plugins/NeatVideo4.ofx.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NeatVideo4.ofx

Hope it'll help...
