I'm playing with the free version of Fusion but it doesn't import video. Does the paid version import video. If so, is there a trial period before I have to pay?

Fusion imports a wide range of video files, no difference to the Studio version. Which uses a dongle. The free version is Your trial version, You can use it as long as You please. The differences are highlighted here https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/compare

The second section, following the overview of the interface, is about loading footage into Fusion.

If you have a specific video file that Fusion will not load, then it's likely using an unsupported container or codec.
