Fusion 9 network render mixing PC and Mac

PostWed Aug 01, 2018 10:20 am

Hi,

Is it possible to mix Windows PC and Mac using Network render? If possible, how to make loader and saver path work as relative path?

Cheers!

I've never tried it, but it should work. The only place I can think you might have problems would be the Renderer3D node and particles if the calculations are performed slightly differently.

You can set up relative paths using Path Maps. The simplest is to make everything relative to the comp with 'comp:', which points to the location of the comp file.

For instance, suppose you have a folder system like this:

Volume/somefolders/project/plates/plate.###.dpx
Volume/somefolders/project/apps/Fusion/myComposite.comp
Volume/somefolders/project/output/render.###.exr

You can use this path in your Loader:
comp:../../plates/plate.###.dpx

And this in your Saver
comp:../../output/render.###.exr

You could, alternatively, set up a custom path map like proj: to point to the project level, so your Loader path could be:
proj:plates/plate.###.dpx

A while a go I did this with fusion 8 I think.

I had a shared server volume where all Workstations had access to. I did setup a Pathmap in the preferences of fusion - which did the trick...

P: equals /Volumes/ ..etc

Particles did not work and if you plan to use the Mocha plugin, you have to buy expansive extra rendering licenses for this. In my case it just crashed until I found out, that Mocha is not rendering in a network for free...

But possibly it is enough to do what Bryan suggested...

Valuable info; thanks! If you use the full standalone version of Mocha, it exports ordinary Fusion Tracker nodes.

Hmm… looks like they've changed their pricing structure. Mocha Standalone is now $1500 and comes with the plug-ins. That's unfortunate. I knew I should have bought a personal license when I heard they were being bought out by Boris.

Hi Bryan,

there is an option too to purchase a license as OFX Plugin only..

https://borisfx.com/store/?collection=m ... =mocha-pro

this works fine, but not with network rendering. you can of cause export the tracking data to Standart fusion nodes as you mentioned, disconnect the node and then render the comp over the network. I think it is not necessary to delete a node which is not calculated...
