Fusion crashing on render or export

PostMon Sep 24, 2018 10:19 pm

Hey All,

I've been trying to render this project for a few days now without success. It keeps crashing on renders.
It was originally 4K RED footage, but I've tried replacing and re-exporting in different codecs and it still crashes. This is in Fusion within Resolve 15 Studio. I've tried exporting both using the Saver node within Fusion, or exporting via the Resolve UI. Neither works.

Here is an example of the errors I'm getting:

Render started at Mon 3:09PM (Range: 0.0 to 62.0)
Polygon2 cannot get DoD for Effect Mask at time 0
WS_drone cannot get mask image at time 0

MediaOut1 cannot get Parameter for Input at time 0
MediaOut1 failed at time 0
ERROR: Render failed at Mon 3:09PM! Last frame rendered: (none)!

I've tried changing the IO frames and times too.
Here are my system specs:
Intel i7-5930K CPU@3.50GHz 6 Core 32GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 780Ti (Fusion running on CPU only)

Would really appreciate any advise from the community on this one

What's plugged into the EffectMask input of Polygon2?

Hey Bryan,

So right now it is just a polygon with some position animation keyframes. However, I think it's either a corrupted project file or something to do with the way that resolve uses my computers resources vs fusion proper. I re-created the exact same flow in Fusion 9 and had absolutely no problems at all.

Another thing which might be causing an issue is I went and checked my resolve timeline settings and saw that the color space was still set to ARRI Raw even though my footage is all RED. Perhaps having that setting incorrect was forcing my computer to work too hard? That is just a guess. In the meantime I'm going back to the VFX connect workflow until I can be sure that everything else will work in the future so I don't miss any deadlines. It still somehow seems neater to me to do it that way.

Would love to hear your thoughts if you get a chance.

Thanks so much

The first entry in the list of errors reported said it couldn't get the DoD (Domain of Definition) for Polygon2's Effect Mask, which means that it was trying to read something from there and couldn't. If there was nothing connected to it but the input was making a request anyway, that would account for the failed render. Every so often a node does get corrupted in one way or another, and it looks like that may be what happened to you.

In any case, I approve of falling back to Fusion 9 since you have that option. Resolve just doesn't have it together yet. I would much rather have seen a tighter VFX Connect pipeline than the attempt to bolt together two programs with such dissimilar paradigms.
