Rotoscope Masking

PostMon Oct 22, 2018 2:20 am

There's a shot where a certain character was suppose to be in frame, but wasn't. The shot I'm using happens to not have him (Boom Mic Guy). I manage to film him into the shot on another day by lining the shot up as best I can. The last thing I need to do is rotoscope a mask frame by frame to merge the two shots together. I did this with Photoshop years ago, and now wanna try Fusion with it. However, can't seem to find a video guide to show me, or a tutorial. If one exist, point me in the right direction. Otherwise, tells me step by step on what I'd need to do?

I have two articles. The first covers the basic masking procedure about three quarters of the way down the page. Look for the title "Lesson the Fourth: Masking."

The second talks more about the technique of rotoscoping and less about the specific controls in Fusion (although there's still a little bit of that in there):

edit: I think that's the first time I've ever seen someone add a boom mic to a shot!

Lol. It’s part of the story. The plot involves a driver jumping between Alternate Realities, where one reality he’s a driver driving downtown, and in the other he’s an actor filming himself driving downtown side projection style.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. For whatever the reason I can't get them (background and foreground) to be seen at the same time. I can only see the one I'm painting out, but not the background I want behind it.

You have one of your images plugged into the Effect Mask input of the Merge instead of the Foreground. I think you should read that first article I linked in its entirety. You need to get the ground-level basics of Fusion sorted out.
